I had to clean up a few planes today, sharpen them, and flatten the soles. So one thing led to another, and I ended up doing several of them. This No 10, has a large lump inside on the arch. I feared there was a weld hiding under it, since that is the classic area for a break, and this plane is especially probe to it. After cleaning it, I see that there doesn't appear to be a weld there, which it good. Now I just eed a proper iron for it. #woodworking #planerestoration

Before and after. Last night I was so excited I couldn't wait to start cleaning up my Grandfather's jack plane. It looks like it's a type 18 #5C. I lapped the sole and both sides from 60-220grit. Next will be taking apart the iron and frog assembly and cleaning out the old dust and rust. Takes a pretty decent shaving considering the blade likely hasn't been sharpened in 20+ years! #woodworking #handtools #planerestoration #stanley #generationsofwoodworkers #lapping #cleanup
