I keep seeing a lot of people writing "interest was peaked" rather than "interest was piqued" and you know what?
Language is evolving, it's literally fine.
Spelling it piqued is just unnecessarily conplex for no good enough reason, and saying "interest was peaked" also conveys the exact same kind of thing going on, with the interest at its highest point, so it really doesn't matter.
People hearing "interest was piqued" and assuming that's the word "peaked" are still coming away with the correct interpretation, so it literally does not matter.
Okay folks, let's get the spelling straight:
If I peeked, then I looked at something secretively.
If I peaked, then I arrived at the top of a mountain (literally or metaphorically), and the only direction is down.
If I am piqued, then I've been provoked or irritated by something, possibly by someone spelling "piqued" incorrectly.
