☹️
I go back and forth about who fell first (book version) but would it be controversial to say that at the moment I'm leaning towards there was no first, they both liked each other the whole time
Not to be sappy but I love the way Pip makes a conscious choice to tell Ravi she loves him all the time after everything with Jason, without even noticing that she was already doing it constantly. She's like when was the last time I told Ravi I love him? Darling girl, it was last time you saw him, followed by a text where you also said it.

One of my least favourite tropes that's been popular for the last few years is the "poor stupid boyfriend, needs to be mothered by his girlfriend" trope. Thats one of the many things I love so much about Ravi, he's clever and not only does the narrative know he's smart, Pip knows it too. Pip and Ravi are partners and equals in everything, they figure things out together, they protect each other, and they take care of each other. Pip who famously hates working with others loves working with Ravi.
Do you think worst case scenario for pip would be going to jail for jason or getting away with it and coming back to find ravi in love with someone else?
I think if we're talking actual worst worst case I think it would be this:
She gets away with the murder, but while she's in her self imposed banishment something happens to Ravi (idk maybe he gets grievously hurt or killed). Then she will know for the rest of her life that she wasnt there to protect him and it was all for nothing because she got away with it anyway. I think knowing Pip, she would blame herself and hate that she lost Ravi without ever getting to see him again.
But thankfully we aren't dealing with worst case scenario here!
Pipravi and the subversion of romantic tropes
In a book that has violence against women as such a prevalent running theme, I think its so important that Ravi, as the romantic lead, subverts so many tropes by just being a kind and good person. When Pip confesses that she's been keeping Sals interview transcript from him, the expectation would be that it will be a major source of conflict between them or he'll lash out. The way he handles it though, taking a minute to think, to see Pips perspective and respond with understanding. Where other books might take the oppurtunity for cheap drama, Pip and Ravi manage to make it through the series as a solid unit just by truly and deeply trusting, respecting, and understanding one another. I think that is what is so special to me about them as a couple.
