Lord Kars and Master Esidisi!!
(Joseph and Caesar pose reference)
Very messy sketch but I srsly need to start drawing anything to get myself out of my slump. I had an idea for a fantasy au which was originally a fairy au because I re-watched Arrietty and I thought it was so whimsical and cute. This then started the fantasy rabbit hole, Anthonio Zeppeli always reminded me of a magician when I first saw him; I've been drawing him a lot but I didn't particularly love any of the drawings so I haven't posted any of them. Then my mind wandered to Kars. My idea for the fantasy au is that there's obvious magic but different cultures use it and view it differently. In Aztec civilizations, they did have shamen of sorts which was specifically called a nahual/nagual which had the ability to shapeshift. From my research I'm not sure they really viewed it negatively. However, in Mexican mythology/superstition, certain animals are viewed negatively and suspected to be witches(this I REALLY have to research). It's interesting to see certain overlap from long ago to now. Overall, I think it's interesting to have different uses of magic between different cultures within fantasy. Like how different countries may have similarities to one another in what types of food they eat but they prepared it vastly different in their culture.
thinking about the pillar men too hard again omg i gotta die
