Nancy becomes a regular at pig beach, talking with the locals who take care of the pigs.

This is a common item wherever fish are regularly cleaned and the carcasses are thrown in the water. These are only nurse sharks feeding and milling about while a kid watches. In several islands the Bull sharks mix in. Bull sharks are recognized as “man eaters”. Nurse sharks are puppy dogs. But they are hungry and do have teeth. Later in the year a kid was bitten by a Nurse shark and airlifted out.

After watching these guys clean their fish at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club, we swore off of fish at any local restaurant. The locals just don’t have access to ice on a daily basis. These fish were sitting on the boat all day without ice. Placed in black plastic bags at some point and brought to the cleaning station. Flies were everywhere!

This is the dinghy beach at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club. Remember “Cay” is pronounced “Key”.

The Island cemetery is right around the corner from the Yacht Club, it is a short cut to the liquor store and the dump.

We walked around Staniel Cay, here is the Government Dock. Each populated island has a Government Dock where the mail boat brings in supplies for the Island each week. This is the one at Staniel.

This is the cut at the Government dock which we would use to get to Rev. Burke’s Isles General Store. This is the same cut that cruisers use to get to the airport to drop off or pick up crew and family. What beautiful water!

Here we are approaching the one “round about” on the whole island. It is diligently patrolled by an island equivalent of “Barney”. Including a 6 shot revolver. Whether or not Officer Sampson had any bullets is not known. And best if he doesn’t have any. We spent several minutes talking with him. Until some errant Americans in a golf cart went the wrong way. Officer Sampson laid into them and we decided it was best to leave quietly.

Back at the boat, we watched the girls using the slide on the mega yacht next door. They were anchored near us for several days. They enjoyed themselves. But we had the better time.
