When personally designing a clown/jester oc i put them into one of three categories

The first is goofy, and to give an example from media, I would use Pomni, and while her story and character isn't goofy in any way, her character design somewhat is, considering her brighter colours, the big puffy sleeves and shorts, the three hair tufts and big wide eyes, all of her character design features are less serious and mostly arent fitting to her personality, giving her a first impression based off of appearance being a goofy character, and i usually make characters like this such as the one in my last post

The second category is slutty, and my example for this is harlequin from the freak circus because, well... look at him.

This is fanart, [credits on photo] and despite all of him being covered [as that isnt required for a slutty character] his body language, his personality and still his outfit give him a much more adult, sexual vibe then the design of pomni would, and specific details i would add for a more slutty character similar to harlequin are the boots, the consistent heart motifs and snatched waist

And the final category i use, the least common, is sad, and I cant really think of a specific character to use for this category, so instead id like to use pierrots as an example [not the character], as they tend to have white outfits with black accents, with sad, exaggerated makeup and longer sleeves to give them an almost moping look, and while pierrots arent always depicted as sad, I often see them as such and think they're a good frame of reference for sad clowns/jesters

If anyone wants to make clown ocs, though, I don't reccomend using my personal design choices much if at all as they arent that great, and if someone wants to make a clown/jester oc, then looking up subgenres of clowns and jesters, deciding a colour pallet and basing their personality on said colours is a good place to start

Ici, on voit les Pierrots, les Arlequins (la jeune fille montre une chorégraphie avec l'orange très typique), les Paysans et les Marins (plus quelques Gilles qui passent). J'adore aussi le monsieur dans la foule qui danse, emporté par la mélodie des Paysans (I.20).
