darnell’s dad is definitely the “cool” dad in the neighborhood, and by that I mean he’s the guy you go to when you wanna get high and drunk off your rockers and he won’t beat the shit out of you for it
He’s definitely had his life fucked over by drugs like weed and alcohol and even harder stuff like crack and he understands how EXPONENTIALLY MORE dangerous it is to do drugs like that in hiding.
he specifically does this to make sure Darnell and Pico NEVER DO HEROIN like he is specifically on a mission to keep those two boys leashed off from heavy opioids AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. he’s definitely more of a hard ass on pico but it’s mostly just because he sees himself in him and wants to keep him safe.
Darnell’s dad is actually pico’s real dad and he doesn’t know it cause Darnell’s dad finds him horribly obnoxious but would also kill everyone if anything ever happened to that little white boy
