To be fair, I’m pretty open about the type of writer that I am (slow to update and perfectionist)—and I think it definitely shows. I like to think it’s a bit of an inside joke with my readers, haha: I might be slower than most writers to update but when I do, I tend to come back with a big lush feast to make up for it.

AH! True. I am such a foodie. 😂 The way to my heart is through my stomach; I have a buncha bookmarks on Yelp of just restaurants and bakeries/ cafes I’ve liked, sorted by cities. And if I’m not watching a show or movie or a C-drama, the YouTube vids I like to watch include how-to-make recipe videos while I make dinner. (For the parties I’ve hosted, I’m more known for my sangrias, salads, and filet mignon steaks with a “bordelaise” red wine reduction sauce.) I think it’s funny my appreciation of food shows in The Untold Tale but I guess it shows when Shen Yuan is commentating on the food presented so far. (For me, it makes sense because Luo Binghe is this canon blackened protagonist whose golden finger is his cooking skills for his wives, and even an older DILF Shen Yuan would be drawn like canon SY!SQQ to the Male Lead’s cooking.) Chinese cuisine is one of the cuisines that’s near and dear to my heart. There’s just a lotta regional dishes and drinks that are delicious, and I hope they’ll come across as appetizing in the story. Personally the ritual of having a meal can be a very intimate act, and it can be used as a great storytelling vessel (this is applicable to TUT and Truce mostly, but I’ve hidden small kernels of food scenes everywhere in my works). In my culture, we also tend to talk and do business over food; there’s a whole unspoken mianzi (saving/ giving face) “etiquette” to it.

You’d be right, Anon. I think in all my AO3 stories—and even in my Twitter threadfics—you can see a lotta emphasis on the worldbuilding, with descriptions of the architecture and its design, haha. Descriptions just come a bit more intuitively to me because I renovate clients’ homes for a living: irl I’m an interior designer (officially a small business owner (CEO) as of 2022) and licensed realtor. The last license I’m hoping to get is my ✨General Building B contractor license✨ (to build homes) and then I’ll be done with all the licenses I want the law exam’s done; now all that’s left is the trade exam and I’ll officially be a bonded contractor ✌️.
