I've felt SUPER WEIRD about posting about this that much, which is silly...
But uh...hey! I'm now in the club (along with Ali Hazelwood, Cassandra Clare, and many other wonderful writers) of fanfic author turned published author.
In 2016, I answered @thestraggletag's Swanfire prompt during one of my promptathons. The prompt turned into a fic. The fic turned into an original story. I met @aicosu and she designed the most beautiful and wonderful book cover of all time, no I'm not biased, that's fact. At least until her book comes out.
Nine years later, the original story became this:
It's real. It's in bookstores and libraries. Someone made a visionboard of it on Instagram. My dearest friends threw me a surprise release party. And it's still bizarrely surreal to me, that this dream I've had since I was seven, came true. Hey, I'm a published author now.
If you've supported and read my fics over the fourteen years I've spent on Tumblr, I'd love it if you checked my debut! It's full of snarky humor, whackadoodle antics, making fun of organized religion, and plenty of C.S. Lewis allusions.
Would you check it out? Could you leave a rating and review? Believe it or not, that REALLY helps!
If you have read it, tell me what you liked about it! Tell me if you have ships! I'll know I've truly made it when someone writes fanfic for this book.
And YES! There is a sequel forthcoming...
Harper Collins has officially paid me for a chapter on C.S. Lewis and his wife in a new book.
Who knew that ranting about Susan Pevensie on Tumblr (and Twitter) could turn into an academic career?
Writing is a lot of different things for a lot of different people, but my God, I LOVE being paid to write the things I love.
Thank you all for helping me do that right here on tumblr dot com of all things.
One of my executives BORROWED my pen for a meeting and if he thinks I won't stalk him to retrieve it...
I AM VERY CHOOSY ABOUT MY PENS AND I NEED THAT ONE BACK.
Please don't comment something like "this story is so great! so disappointing/sad that it's been abandoned."
It's passive aggressive and all it does is guilt the author. Trust me. We are well aware of the stories we have that are unfinished. Most of us are doing our fucking best and you have no idea how awful it is to read a sweet comment and then have your stomach drop when you read something like that.
I'm already having a shitty day and this comment on an old fic--something that should've brought me a spot of kindness--just made me feel worse.
Don't fucking do that.

The downside of being a published author as opposed to a fanfic author, is while I always felt free to complain about mean reviews on fanfic, I do not get the same luxury with my book.
I can't even respond cuz book reviews are 100% not for the author (but we look at them anyway, c'mon, you know you would) and I need to accept that my book will not be everyone's cup of tea and that's okay, but sometimes people are just WRONG about what I'm doing--or accusing me of a trope that I actively did NOT use and took pains to avoid, as a matter of fact...
*SULKS*
MY ARC IS ARRIVING TODAY.
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FUNCTION.
I JUST WANT TO FOLLOW BROOKLYN MAIL TRUCKS AROUND.
MY SWANFIRE FANFIC EVOLVED INTO AN ORIGINAL STORY AND NOW IT'S A REAL-ASS BOOK.
A REAL ONE. LIKE IN THE MAIL A REAL BOOK THAT I'M GOING TO GET TODAY.
AUGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I'm pretty contented with my job situation right now. The salary is great, my boss is great, I have tons of downtime to write...
But...
My DREAM FUCKING JOB opportunity just dropped in my lap. The pay is shit, but it's doing what I've wanted to do since I was 20 and it's IN Oxford University...
I'm not likely to get it but God do I want it...I'm applying anyway because why the fuck not but what a dream...to live in my favorite city for three years, researching C.S. Lewis for PAY (shit pay, but still pay)...
But it would also completely uproot my life and I'd have to move to a new fucking country in a very short period of time.
And I'm tired. I have such a good life in New York.
But I've been waiting for a job like this all my life...
UGH WHY COULDN'T THIS HAVE HAPPENED WHEN I WAS UNEMPLOYED AND DESPERATE.
