Broken Rice at Pho Hung.
Not eating pho at a restaurant whose name comprises the word "pho" was a brave and possibly foolish move. Broken rice was ordered after an internal struggle... and much regret as other diners' buried their faces in the slurpingly delicious steaming bowls of Vietnamese noodles.
Whilst claiming no expertise on broken rice, this was one of the best sampled in Melbourne. The pork was well marinated and grilled to retain all its juiciness without the fatty texture. All the sides were wonderfully flavoured, but without the headache-laden aftertaste signature of MSG. A generous side of cucumber and tomatoes complete the dish atop a bed of rice. Most impressive was perhaps the egg - properly fried and sunny-side up. None of this microwave business.
No points for the decor and the atmosphere - true of most Viet restaurants in Melbourne... you are there for the food and not the ambience. And the food... Well that's a definite thumbs up.

Our favorite place to eat Pho in Portland! We literally eat here once a week, without fail. We used to live in SE Portland, about five minutes away from this place, but now that we live in downtown it's about a 10-15 minute bus ride away. But yesterday we simply stopped here on our way to get groceries at Fubon.
