Just when I started giving that little beige bamma a pass for his past ignorant, ahistorical "new black" statements about race and politics, he's proudly doubled-down with his latest hot-take.

His 2023 debut fashion show as Louie Vuitton's creative director was Hella Black and dope, SO I mistakenly thought that maybe he'd evolved. But nope - he spewed tired hwyte talking points against diversity, equity and inclusion, while claiming to be apolitical last week at an annual conference for upstart business entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, this the same person who: started the Black Ambition initiative in 2020 allegedly as a way of helping founders from marginalized backgrounds build their own businesses; and performed at a 2018 benefit gala to raise funds for the extremely-political Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF).

These anti-Black, anti-DEI, pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps, hyper-capitalist, fashion, sports & entertainment token negroes are exhausting.

A modern American story told through Detroit ambition, family legacy, and Black luxury.

It’s a spirit he’s brought to his agenda-setting work as @LouisVuitton’s creative director of menswear—a post he’s held for two-plus years—and part of what made him such a fitting cohost of this year’s #MetGala, celebrating the exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” at the @metcostumeinstitute.

“I always kind of like to bend the rules a little bit,” Williams says, describing his intuitive sense of personal style. “I’m not looking for attention, but I don’t necessarily want to blend in.”

For Vogue’s May 2025 issue, @chiomannadi met Williams in Paris, where the two discussed family, creativity, and Black resiliency, possibility, and power.
