#pew talks

Parker stood to the side, watching the people talk to each other at their own costume party. It was nice seeing everyone enjoying themselves— everything was perfect— the decorations, the music, the food and drinks….so why didn’t they feel good?

They felt like they were waiting for someone— anyone… but who, they didn’t exactly know.

They looked down at the red cup in their hands, staring down at the reflection the beer gave them. Perhaps they drank too much, that must be it. Right?

No matter how much they rationalized it, they felt their chest tighten as they stared down at their reflection in the cup.

And all the sudden the voices around them felt suffocating, the people’s glares heading their way as their throat closed up and their eyes filled with tears.

Why weren’t they here? They promised to be here…

Parker sniffled, heading out to the backyard to calm down. They sat down by a large tree, putting cup down.

They tried so hard not to break. But they were hidden now, and it’s not very likely anyone needed them right now.

So they cried. Silent tears rolled down their face as their shoulders shook with each quiet sob.

It was pathetic to them, that they felt this way, crying over someone who was probably busy tonight. Someone who had priorities over them.

but still, that feeling of abandonment and poked their heart like a sewing needle. Sharp, yet small.

They cried into their hands, hiding their face away from the world. It was too much, they couldn’t face anyone else tonight.

Their breathing calmed eventually, the crying had taken a toll on them.

“Are you alright?”

“GH—“ they turned back to see the person they were waiting for, their partner, the love of their life.

“I-…shit. Yeah. Just uh…. Got… overwhelmed.” They wiped their tears

“Really?” They sat with parker.

“Mhm. I’m okay now. Obviously.”

“Obviously” their partner repeats, not believing them. They wrapped their arm around parker, bringing them closer and kissing their forehead, “you look gorgeous tonight”

“Even with…this?” They gestured to their face

Their partner nodded.

The music from within the house changed, one to a more slow and romantic one.

They both got up, Parker feeling a bit better. They dusted themself off before looking at their partner, who had their hand extended.
