Climate change is the challenge of our generation. Undeniable evidence—unprecedented storms, fires, floods—indicate that we must work to decrease the impact of climate change for our future health, well-being, and prosperity. Individually and as a community, we must decrease our contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and prepare our infrastructure and social systems to withstand the effects of more excess heat days and extreme precipitation events.  This crisis also brings opportunity. Necessary change means new jobs for Prince George’s County, in renewable energy, building retrofits, new transportation technology, regenerative agriculture, urban forestry, and more. Electrifying our buildings and transportation will decrease harmful air pollution that contributes to health disparities. Implementing nature-based solutions—preserving and expanding our forests, wetlands, and urban green infrastructure—will improve the quality of life for all. New systems for data collection and information sharing will promote transparency, good governance, and more climate-conscious decision-making. With a comprehensive CAP, PGC will be better positioned to apply for new sources of state and federal funding.

Mauna a Wākea is the tallest mountain on earth reaching from her base on the ocean floor to her summit that rises above the clouds. Mauna Kea is ancestrally, culturally and spiritually sacred to Kanaka Maoli, and the spiritual and physical health of the mountain, is reflective of the spiritual and physical health of her people.  Mauna Kea is significant to the entire world, connected to all mountains and waters, all places and all people. We, the undersigned, demand that there will be no construction of the 30 Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea.
