A petco location in Florida (6757 Manatee Ave W, Bradenton, FL,34209), is holding a hamster RACE.

children are free to bring their hamster from home, or choose a hamster from the store and race them inside hamster balls. This is fucking disgusting. It honest to god takes one quick google search to know that A.) Hamstery balls are dangerous. B.) Hamsters should not be in contact with one another. C.) taking a hamster out of its home and potentially traveling is extremely stressful. D.) Hamsters can LITERALLY die from stress! It’s irresponsible. And can even expose the animals to sooo many diseases. (Like hello?? Mites are a thing.)

Petco has always been a huge piece of shit, especially since they attain their rodents from mills, but most of the general public is getting their animal information from this place.. who hasn’t updated their care since the fucking 90’s.

A mutual of mine on insta (who runs a Hamster account and is an ambassador for ethical brands) has already reached out to the store, and they completely dismissed any and all concerns. They even stated that they had “vets” who approved this. So thank you Jonsburrow for bringing this peoples attention.

Anyways. I’m sick of animal abuse being normalized because of corporations like this.

Don’t purchase an animal from petco. Ever. Even if you think you’re “saving” them, you’re just supporting places like this. And if you wanna leave a Google review for this place and let em know how shitty this is, do it.

Am I going crazy or is this hognose at my local petco underweight? Clearly nothing too extreme but I'm worried they aren't taking the steps to maintain/help him gain weight...

I want you to know that he's living a happy and healthy life in New york. He's almost 4 now and he's well fed, sleeps in a warm bed evey night, lives with a loving family, and has an older cat-sister named Willow (whos 5 now)

He's the most loving and affectionate cat, but when he follows me around, rubs his head on me, or licks my hair, I sometimes think about how you wont be able to feel the loves he gives me. I think about how your boyfriend made you give him up. I wish you could feel the love that I feel from him. I wish you could see all his quirky traits, like when he tries to bury his food ,or when he eats your hair, or even the way he looks at you. I wish you could have experienced all of that.
