If you think I’m going to be knocking on Roxy, no. You’re shit out of luck there. If anything, I wish they committed to the look a bit more with her sprite.

It’s just my own opinion that Vriska and Gamzee’s sprites in particular look a bit… Well, not of my taste, let’s say that. Same for Nepeta, unfortunately, but notably less so. I’m just… Personally not a fan of the style. They’re lackluster and messy, especially in comparison to- well, the rest of the sprites in the game.

You can tell from the sprites that there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of how certain things work and look, and that the artist is very much so still growing. And there quite literally isn’t anything wrong with that! But they really set that artist up for some stupid fucking controversy when putting them next to the sprite works of someone who clearly has a better grasp of what they’re doing, and with an incredibly clean and professional style to boot.

I think Vriska and Gamzee’s Pesterquest sprites lack what make the others so good. The sprites for the Beta Kids, and characters like Feferi, Eridan, Sollux, etc., are so amazing because they really carry the same energy as the characters from the comic, both in the sense of their actual personalities and in their designs. They’re exactly how you’d think they would look if you scaled them up and made them cleaner. HD Homestuck!

But you don’t really… Get that, with Vriska and Gamzee. No, I’m not complaining because they aren’t drawn as being “attractive,” or whatever. That would be fucking creepy, they’re 13. My point is that they genuinely look more like fan designs than they do a scaled up version of the original sprites in Homestuck proper. It’s jarring, and really makes Pesterquest feel a bit more like a fan game than what was probably originally intended.

… And the fact that I’ve literally never seen any constructive criticism, or any reasoning behind disliking the sprites that wasn’t worded childishly, really sucks. I hope that the brainless, vindictive hatred didn’t mess the artist up too much, and I do hope they’re doing well. I have not a single god damn clue who they are, and I don’t really care, because that’s not my business in my opinion, but I genuinely hope they’re ok.

Hate mobs… Are not pleasant. I’ve been there. It’s… Not fun, having a fandom after you, whether it’s on a small scale or not. My personal mild distaste for the sprites isn’t a personal vendetta, I don’t personally hate the artist for them because that’s stupid and harmful- and to be quite honest, I barely ever think about them. Pesterquest does not come into my realm of thoughts very often.

I couldn’t give less of a shit if Vriska looks like a Christmas tree. Sure, I have thoughts about it, because I’m a person, but it’s not like it’s a huge concern for me. It’s not life or death if I think Vriska looks a bit iffy in a non-canon Homestuck visual novel. It just means the design wasn’t made for me. And that’s fine.
