TPFF 2016 Empire Rose
TPFF 2016 Empire Rose
Empire Rose has been Perthâs go to for street style grunge & sports luxe clothing for 20 years. So it came as no surprise that there was a lot of hype surrounding their stand alone TPFF show for their 20th anniversary. The show started with a 20 to 1 countdown of Empire Rose moments before Lauren Brown, this yearâs face of TPFF, model walked down the runway in a Marie Antoinette inspired whiteâŚ

What I Wore Style File: Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2015
Fashion is about expressing yourself and having fun and there is no better place to do just that than at the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. And Iâll be honest, at TPFF anything goes! Literally anything! When it comes to Fashion Festival I like to dress in a way that is unexpected (formal skirt & sneakers? Done!) Or in a way that draws inspiration from the designer on show that night. Because IâŚ

PERF Opening
Melody Smith Gallery is proud to announce âPERFâ an exhibition of new artworks by Perth based artist Alex Maciver. This was the artistâs first solo presentation of artworks since he claimed the Film Freo 24 Award, part of 2014 Fringe Festival, and the prestigious 2013 Fremantle Print Award.
The opening night showcased a collaborative performance with Citizens of Arcane, presented by Coveted Events.
Melody Smith Gallery showcased this new series of artworks that emphasizes quite definite sculptural notions of character and attitude. Each work was unique in character and in some way impersonate portrait paintings, but with a volume and density that was destined for a sculptural installation. The emotional pitch of these works was both sporadic and spontaneous, with a mood that finds expression in what Maciver described as âthe kind of restless studio activity that transforms our interpretation of familiar dĂŠcorâ.
Since arriving in Western Australia in 2011, Maciverâs oeuvre has encompassed an incredible diversity of styles and media. Often blurring the line between comedy and tragedy, the grotesque and the beautiful, the critical and the empathetic, Maciver has developed a provocative and adventurously imaginative series of artworks following a recent residency at Fremantle Arts Centre.
âMy intention whilst based as Fremantle Arts was on developing new works that extend beyond my painting practice but not to immerse myself entirely in abstraction. The works focus more in trying to control social and sexual identities, and the way that these kinds of structures affect and manipulate the interactions of people, the way we reveal ourselves to the world, and the assertion of the things that surround us.â Maciver.
Alex Maciver (b. 1985) lives and works in Perth WA. Since graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee University UK in 2007, he has been actively involved in many artist-run initiatives from Generator Projects (UK), Crate 59 (QLD), and recently Paper Mountain (WA) with his first solo exhibition, âI May Live on as a Ghostâ, as pat of 2013 Fringe Festival. His works features in public and private collections, including City of Fremantle Collection.

Avant Garde Styles: Runway Show for Blakk
Avant Garde styles are definitely for the creative minds. Runway shows and photo shoots often resort to avant garde styles of hair, fashion and makeup to escape from the everyday commercial looks and give audiences something unique and creative to observe. These looks are certainly more high fashion and not wearable on a daily basis, (unless you are cool enough to pull it off LOL).
Blakk is an Australian company who launched their range of hair extensions with a sold out runway event at The Oxford Hotel. All the hairdressers had put in hours and hours of work into making headpieces out of real hair extensions by Blakk, and then of course spent more hours on sewing those pieces onto the modelsâ real hair! It was a night filled with avant garde hairstyles and makeup art on gorgeous Perth-based models. I had the privilege to work backstage as a makeup artist and loved every bit of it!
Carlos Arevelo was the official photographer for the night. Below are some of my favorite images of the night:

Who would have thought that a bunch of bloggers who had overflowing wardrobes in need of a thorough clearing would pull together the best garage sale despite the crazy weather? Well, these ladies of fashion definitely did!
Fashion bloggers of Perth united for one Sunday over the long weekend and sold their favourite threads ranging from a mixture of gorgeous vintage, designer and urban wear at garage sale prices.
17 bloggers of all shapes and sizes including Bonnie Friday, Ethereal Reality, Where The Styled Things Are, Modern Girls in Vintage Pearls, Little Miss MonBon, Harlequins Party, The Style Trust, Perth Style, Whats The Goh, The Boyfriend Shirt, Vintage Chic, Lady Maple Vintage, Christieâs Take on Life, The Illusive Femme, Adorn You, Dropstitch and In The Dress Up-Box â created an event to remember!
âOne of the best parts of the day had to be finally meeting the other bloggers,â said Nadine of Modern Girls in Vintage Pearls. âItâs good that we all got together to do this sale and its nice putting a face to the blogs that Iâve been reading on a regular basis.â
A whole bunch items went to new loving homes and some little sweet candies and a pitcher of delicious fruit punch were provided to celebrate the bargain-hunting prowess of these ladies.
Be sure to keep a look out for the next annual Blogger Garage Sale and check out their blogs for daily updates on everything else fashion!
