Okay, anyway, so this will be one of my shorter reviews. Good grief, such a huge letdown after a two week break, not that I was expecting anything big. Honestly, it’s coming to the point of the season where it’s testing me.
Arman and Thony meet/The ambush
Thony is getting ready to go with Arman to meet Bosco for a new shipment. Luca’s health is getting worse, but she has to leave him with Fiona. They are talking when Arman shows up. Thony lets him in and he acknowledges Fiona. He asks about Luca. Thony gives him the latest. He laments not being able to do more as they head out. Upon their arrival at the usual spot, the entire place is a massacre area. Everyone has been killed, and they start looking around, with Arman telling Thony to hang back. But she looks around for anyone alive, and she happens on Bosco, who is barely conscious, and he dies while Thony checks him. Arman and Thony are horrified at what has obviously transpired. He tells her there could be an ambush, and, sure enough, they almost immediately are shot at. They dodge bullets and hide behind the van to bide their time. Arman decides at one point to run to the motorcycle, which is close enough. So they make a run for it. Once they take off on the bike, they are chased down by cartel on four wheelers. Arman makes several maneuvers and eventually they are able to escape onto a highway. They stop on the side of the road, trying to contemplate what’s happened and how to handle things going forward.
So, not much to chew on here, but there are a couple of nice, subtle moments. First, we have Arman coming to the house. He and Thony have clearly talked about Luca’s health previously, which I’d really love to have an in. When he asks how Luca is, his volume is normal. But when Thony tells him, Arman’s tone shifts into something more somber, and his voice is low and raspy when telling Thony he wishes he could help. It’s affecting him more and more, especially now that his finances are in uncertain waters. He wants to give her the world so she can have a healthy son. However, Thony assures him he is, and you can see a warm and grateful expression on her face. The fact she’s able to have access to Dr. Saroyan is help; there’s no need for anything big or expensive at this time. He’s been feeling worthless, but she’s there to tell him that he isn’t. I think this surprises him a little, because when he turns his head towards her as she says this, you can see his mouth drop and he takes a deep breath.
In the desert, Arman’s concern goes up ten-fold because of how many men were taken out and what happened to them. He knows what the Cartel can do, how dangerous they can be. He knows how compassionate Thony is, and her doctor’s heart, but this is a part of his world that she’s never encountered before. So his words to stay back take on a bit of a command. although, he is as shocked at the situation after Bosco dies. But he has to set those feelings aside fairly quickly as he needs to take charge and figure out a way he and Thony can get out of there alive. Once they do, he immediately checks her over. Oh my gosh, the expression on his face is beautiful. Arman turns her so he can look at her face, his voice frantic, which is also apparent on his face. But it slowly changes into something akin to awe. They just went on the ride of their lives, with him doing the driving and dodging, so he had no idea if she had been shot or not. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if she got hurt, even if in a situation that would have hindered his ability to protect her.
Meeting with Kamdar/The airport
Thony and arman are in Kamdar’s office, where they’re on the receiving end of a tongue lashing from Kamdar. He’s not happy with them because his buyer will get nothing. He’s especially PO’d because the Cartel is involved. That means only one thing for him, thus he gives Joseph the signal to assassinate them. But Thony speaks up, saying she knows of a way to get drugs from Manila. Kamdar is skeptical, but Arman backs her up. Kamdar reluctantly agrees, but he threatens to leave her behind if they can’t get the drugs. Later, then, Arman and Thony arrive at the hangar to fly to Manila. Kamdar shows up, and Arman wonders why he’s there. Kamdar tells him that he’s joining him, as he can do business in the Philippines if they’re already going. He also figures he can help manage the deal. While he’s saying this, Arman is being security-checked, but Kamdar tells his man to stop. a confused arman looks at him, and Kamdar tells him he’s not going with. Arman says it’s “their” deal, but Kamdar corrects him, saying Arman's deal with him was done when the original fell through, and Thony was the one to plan this deal. Thony protests, saying she needs Arman, but Kamdar disagrees. He says it’s his plane, his rules. With that said, he invites Thony to board the plane.
Even less in these two scenes to dissect. I’m going to try to do my best to pick things out to analyze. When Arman and Thony are in the office, it was as if they were waiting in the principal’s office to receive their punishment. It’s not the first time for them in this situation, and, like before, it’s Thony who hastily comes up with a plan to save their butts. Arman's expressions are rather interesting as he’s listening to Thony. She’s talking about Luca being sick, so he’s likely worried, as well as sympathetic. When she’s trying to convince Kamdar that her plan is ideal, Arman doesn’t hesitate to support it. Once they arrive at the hangar, the pair are seemingly at ease. Perhaps they are relieved to go away for a bit, out of Kamdar’s reach, even if they are going to Manila for him. Upon finding out Arman isn’t welcome, they immediately exchange looks. His eyes linger on her before he gives Kamdar a hint of a look that could kill. Thony, once Kamdar shoots her down, looks afraid. When she starts heading to the plane, she looks back....not once, but twice. Knowing the possible repercussions if she fails, Thony wants to remember his face if it’s going to be the last time she sees it. Meanwhile, Arman is clenching his jaw so hard, my TMJ is cringing at it. Thony is the second woman he cares about to be “taken” by Kamdar, and Kamdar is probably doing it on purpose because he knows what Thony means to him. This is possibly a big factor in Arman suddenly deciding to take him out.
I had high hopes after they showed the scene between Nadia and arman when she asks him THE question in the “previously” spot. But it was a total copout. There wasn’t anything remotely related to it. The plane ride would have been the perfect time for Kamdar to corner Thony about her relationship with Arman.
Spoiler time
Now as for Garrett discovering the truth about Maya, I’m hoping Arman's motive will be addressed next week. We know it, but Garrett doesn’t. It’s too big of a thing to simply brush off. Garrett knows more than anyone about what it’s like to get attached to an informant, only to find out she has feelings for a “bad guy”. It’d create an interesting dynamic between Garrett and Thony. He’s going to find out eventually, and this is the best scenario I can think of. When it comes to the actual crime being committed, and the following punishment, it either might not be major, or he’s going to wait after catching Kamdar to arrest Arman. I only say this because there are pics of the three of them still working together in the finale.
P.S. I’m not that worried about Arman being all stern with Thony next week where it concerns his plans for Kamdar. Pics for the finale show them together in another high stakes moment on the motorcycle and hiding among storage units. It looks to be an awesome scene.
