I have a page for my worldbuilding projects thatās a huge WIP, but in the mean time, hereās a list of the ones I can remember off the top of my head! Ā Iāve done my best to split these by genre, although some obviously fit in multiple categories. You can also browse through my "original stuff" tag for things that haven't made it as far as a concrete project, if you can tolerate the mess.
UPDATE: Tumblr changed their tag system, so I had to fix the links. Ā They SHOULD be working, but chronological links donāt cooperate with mobile, so Iāve made them general links. Ā Please add /chrono to the url if you can, a few of these are very weird out of order (looking at you, Boarās Blood).

Roscoe and Toby are fun because they have a whole shared narrative arc about overcoming internalized homophobia while choosing to remain closeted, and theyāre all caught up in ideas about vulnerability and the desire to help others, but they also once had a 10 minute debate on if tater tots were the human equivalent of hamster pellets. These are grown men.
We left off with Roscoe spending a good 24 hours with Laney and the experimental crew, missing work to do so. But you can only fake food poisoning while a bunch of gay assholes teach you Mental Health Life Hacks (Now Involves Actual Hacking!) for so long.
Time to talk about Peppermint Circuitsā all-important surgeon, August!
Her motivation to do what she does is something of a memorial to an old friendā her best friend in college died of implant complications in her early 20s. She had a seizure while she was driving.
please I need the inside scoop on Toby.. who is he? whatās he thinking? Iām assuming heās gay because I know your writing, is he just super oblivious or is he also a brain hacker??? what is the truth.. also what do he and roscoe look like?
Here are some unrelated facts that clearly donāt imply anything about Toby, no sirree!
āmost brain kitchens have at least one doctor or surgeon. for those that donāt, you still want somebody with good knowledge of how a body works. smaller kitchen groups that operate near colleges actively recruit biology, pre-med, and vet students when they can.
āchildren who are given instruction on low level exploits when theyāre young tend to have less issues with shocksickness later in life, because being able to manage mild punishment from your implant prevents it from escalating. it isnāt underheard of for more kindhearted people involved in brain kitchens to also get into teaching or volunteering with children to secretly teach them these exploits.
āitās good practice to move if youāre in a brain kitchen and a bunch of members get arrested. sometimes this means getting a new job, and befriending your new coworkers, including maybe the cute guy who works in the cafeteria? hypothetically, of course.

Blossom and Frankie are really fun because theyāre both generally really nice people but theyāve made a game out of being AWFUL to each other. Just constant insults and pranks and throwing things across the room at each other.
This probably doesn't fit in the world of peppermint circuits bc I don't know anymore than you've written so far, but Roscoe's implant flooding him bc of how he feels for Toby, while very sad, also forces me to imagine like. Theres definitely like a website or forum behind a VPN or something full of gay people making memes to Cope, right? Like. "brb going on the anemia diet to have my internalized homophobia surgically removedāļø" or crunchy looking meme edits about looking for M I N T S
Actually, silly as this is, it is ABSOLUTELY canon. I havenāt shown enough of Blossom and Frankie but they are 100% Like That.
Now I want to make in-universe memes this is so funny
I have a couple of questions about Peppermint Circuits! First, what else can you say about Toby, Roscoe's new crush? Second, what exactly causes the implant to induce an adrenaline rush - it seems to be connected to Roscoe's feelings?
Iām going to talk about Toby in the next bit of story so Iāll rain check on that question!
But as for the implantā itās essentially a nerve hijack! It isnāt reading your thoughts, but it doesnāt really need to, because itās reading your sensory feedback and humans are predictable. Anxiety and joy and sadness and pretty much every other emotion is felt in the body as much as in the brain. The implant works by punishing feelings that are āwrongā, and tends to escalate after a while. Something that makes you anxious because you know itās going to get you punished just punishes you faster and harder until you stop doing it.
For most people, they donāt āmisbehaveā enough for it to become a serious problem. But some people get VERY sick.
Itās also worth noting that the implant mostly runs on physical sensations rather than sight or hearing, which are much less reliable. It records conversations for ākey wordsā and possible manual review, and just context matches for sight. Itās why those two things are the easiest to mess with.
