review some of my favorite pet styles: rainbow gelert and peophin?
(Not sure if you meant nostalgic or adoring, but either way the adoring styles were primarily recolors made for charity and therefore I'd rather not review them.)
Gelert: The rainbow Gelert is mostly accurate to the original, minus some odd changes that were made to the basic blue pet style. Some of these are fine (stronger front leg anatomy, slightly thicker tail, inner ear), but the eyes are...uh, uncomfortable. The original looks pretty neutral; the pet style looks like it's awkwardly made direct eye contact with you during a party and is already regretting it.
Beyond that, the color placement is pretty accurate outside of the nose being lighter, but the eye change now makes the red muzzle form an odd tangent against the cheek.
Peophin: Again, most the changes here were done to the basic blue style, but honestly, they're more incomprehensible here than the Gelert. The shading has been flipped; I guess to make it more consistent? The mouth has been redone in a way that gives it a weird pointy beak, and the eyes again just look weird now, lacking the implied highlights from the original along with the darker shading at the bottom. Slightly more comprehensible is the mane being "combed" and the ears now having an inside.
As for rainbow-specific things, the colors are surprisingly accurate. Thee only differences are that the pink comes down further on the head fins and the gem is now red instead of pink in the middle. Also, the overall lineart looks too thin.
Overall, both of these are fine relative to the art they're based off of, but some of the questionable changes the original blue styles made to the faces drags them down a bit.
