An evergreen, perennial succulent Umbilicus rupestris (navelwort, hipwort, penny pies, pennywort, wall pennycress, kidney wort, Venus's navelwort) grows in a rosette pattern with fleshy, rounded leaves that have a distinctive central depression. The flower spikes are produced from May to August. This UK native species can be found growing in rock crevices, walls and stony areas.

i found an interesting looking pennywort at the creek the other day - so i photographed it and uploaded pics to inaturalist, naturally.
now i’ve been through almost every reported hydrocotyle on there and pretty much the only similar ones have been left unidentified. the esteemed Pennywort Man could not even provide a species ID for me ..! it’s special, it’s unique and i really believe that this species has not been named yet !! i will discuss this with the Pennywort Man (once i work up the courage) as he is a botanist with a special interest in hydrocotyles and i’m sure he’s been researching this for quite a while now.

Liverworts, the first sign of new life in the spring here. I took these photos before my trip and now there are all kinds of flowers blooming, but these bright blue flowers popping up from places that look completely dead hold a special place in my heart. 💙
