I've reached another milestone: 2100 followers! Hello to you all. I guess it's time to reintroduce myself.
I'm a middle aged fanfic author, on temporary hiatus from fic while I work on an original novel series. Book one is with my editor right now, which still blows my mind.
I'm a lefthanded calligrapher, which some teachers continue to insist is not actually possible but my portfolio would like to suggest otherwise. I also paint and gild my pieces up resemble pages from medieval manuscripts.
I work in a public library, and I'm doing my best to parent my 20-year-old (who is still and always will be my baby).
I despise Gen AI, bigotry of all stripes, and the viewpoint that turning a profit is more important than human lives.
I am at a huge medieval reenactment/ recreation event as I'm writing this, waiting for the rain to start. I've taught a bunch of classes and attended a few, and I'm looking forward to doing some shopping tonight.
I have a hotel room for tonight. Gonna be reminding myself of that all this pouring wet Friday, as Pennsic sticky melts away. I sleep dry tonight. Won't be dry until then, but no more sticky damp beds, no more putting on clothes that are already damp even though they were hanging inside a tent that didn't leak.
I had to drink an inch and a half of mead out of my mug this morning before I could get my coffee. Water ran across the bottom of the tent and got the rugs and laundry hamper wet but I think not the bedding. I think. Jacob is at the shop, which I'm confident is dry, because it's a big rental tent. Well. "Dry". Next break in the rain we'll scramble to get our stuff out of the common tent and then tidy the tent.
Some of us have given up entirely on staying dry and are simply working to break down the shower, plumbing, etc in the rain. I am a weak little sugarplum. I am sitting and posting on Tumblr.
I have a hotel room for tonight. Hotel room. Dry bed. Dry skin. Dry air.
I came to a realization at Pennsic this year:
The two human characteristics that power the Society for Creative Anachronism are pedantry and whimsey.
Which is dominant varies from moment to moment, but both are always present.
day 5 of pennsic β finally put on real clothes. merchants are mostly open, so i did some shopping (again), but i slept through all the classes i wanted to take. iβll try again tomorrow π«‘. trying to get some spinning done

Getting some marshal time on the Populace Thrown Range. Come get your points in Easterners!
One of the fun things about most of your online friends being SCA is that you get two weeks of near-silence on socials every July-August.
Hello! So I am back from Pennsic and also recovered enough to not be trying to make up for taking a week off, hence finally posting
Overall Pennsic was amazing, I fought in 6 rapier melees, 3 rapier tournaments, the stab and gab, and the Tadcaster. I also danced at 6 balls, sang at 2 bardic circles, attended 2 parties, and did a bog walk. An amazing, but exhausting week.
But one of my favorite parts was wearing my watermelon dress to the Blue Feather ball! It got lots of compliments and I remembered to take a picture of my hair taping this time.
So pictures below, and I finish the last little bits of embroidery for the dress, I'm also starting my next project, so watch out for that!
