Given the design of his armor, the Zetans likely abducted Toshiro Kago sometime between the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1568-1600) and the early Tokugawa Shogunate / Edo period (1600-1868)

Cross referencing this with the periods of Japanese-Portuguese trade and Jesuit missionary activities (~1570-~1640), there is a non-zero chance that the Samurai would've had encounters with Portuguese jesuits and potentially even speak their language. Which if true, would likely allow him to understand a limited amount of Spanish given the 80% linguistic / lexical similarity and shared cognates between the two languages

Like imagine LW or Paulson or even Tercorien just saying some random Spanish phrase like "mi casa es su casa" or "no bueno" or smth and the Samurai's eyes just light up like a kid on christmas and he starts jabbering in Portuguese and the others have to try and get him to slow down so they can actually understand some of the words he's saying and man bethesda are such cowards for not thinking about these sort of things.
