At the age of 13 i knew i had a talent in arts and crafts, after that I practiced more because I knew that this talent can change my whole life. I showed every piece of my drawings to my parents, they loved it. At the age of 14 my teacher asked me if I could join in the poster making contest,and I said yes! I prayed a lot that i would win this contest and after a few days they announced that i won the 2nd place, i’m so shocked, I thank everyone that supported me.

After that i joined a lot of contest, there are some that i won and some i loose, but i never give up that easily because i know for my self that i can do better. I will bring this talent in my future and i will use this to inspire everyone. There is no secret in this achievement but all you need is hardwork and perseverance. Arts is my hobby and i want to do this every single day of my life.

Bernadette Banner studied at NYU in Tisch Drama's Production & Design Studio. She was fascinated by historical clothing and studied the history of dress and through practical experimentation and reconstruction. She then worked as a design assistant on Broadway and decided to dedicate herself exclusively to historical tailoring.

She researched tirelessly to find out how to implement historical dress techniques to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. She then posted the results on YouTube and the videos quickly became popular. The advertising opportunities on Youtube enabled Bernadette Banner to become self-employed with Youtube and today she can live out her dream of reconstructing historical clothing. At the time of the interview she had 827.000 subscribers.

Amour Fou & Art: Have you wanted to sew historical clothes since you were a child? Can you remember key moments or magic moments?

Bernadette Banner: I first began sewing original practice (using historical methods) in my final year at university; this involved essentially unlearning all previous knowledge of modern sewing, as many of the techniques and objectives are different, if not entirely opposite: for example, modern sewing tends to use hand sewing as a means of attaching finishing bits that can’t be done by machine and therefore tend to be more delicate by nature, whereas in pre-machine original practice methods, the hand sewing itself must have all the strength of a machine stitch.
