1990s Party People groupfie
Chilling out with my barkda (close friend’s group) and other friends (one of them is a future GF, don’t ask me why or how) before painting the town red in Makaiti City.
I had a weird social life then, as I was most “at home” nursing a lot of beers as a tambáy sa kãnto (layabout at the street corner) or during a tagayan (drinking session) in someone else’s house. Still my barakada would regularly haunt the Yesterdays Bar along Wilson Avenue in San Juan City, to chill out to the classic songs of the 1950s, 1960s to 1970s.
However, as an artist I was regularly drink during exhibit openings, whether they are at the Faculty Center of the University of the Philippines Dilimán campus, West Gallery in in Quezón City, or at any of the many galleries of the Art Centre of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. Maybe I would be chilling out and pretending to be “civilized” by mixing my beers with brewed coffee and liquors at the Penguin Café in Malate or the Inka Café and Big Sky Mind in QC.
Yet with the company I keep, you might find me grinding on the floors of the top discos of Makati City; such as Culture Club, Euphoria, Faces, Kudos, or Rumors. Or I may be dancing the night away at Spirits in Baguio City and Heartbeat in Quezón City. Or the rave houses of Blue Café, Insomnia and the Verve Room in Malate. Heck it was a nice way to meet some girls.
But as a rocker, you will also find at Club Dredd / Red Rocks (established 1992 in Timog /1994 in Cubáo), the Freedom Bar (est. 1996) along Anonas, the Hobbit House in Malate, Mayric’s (est. 1985) along España Boulevard, or at the 70’s Bistro (est. 1993) on Anonas Avenue.
Now-a-days, I am just looking for a nice café to sit down and have either a good non-masschain coffee shop and have a great strong cup of local coffee beans or a non-trendy tea just to relax and have great conversations.
