These dinosaur cookies are a tasty treat that are ideal as party favors or gifts. The brightly colored and intricately decorated dinosaur shapes are sure to delight both children and adults.
Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1 cup granulated sugar. 1 large egg. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Food coloring green, yellow, red, blue. Royal icing for decorating.
Instructions: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Divide the dough into separate portions for each color you want. Add a few drops of food coloring to each portion and knead until the color is evenly distributed. You can use green, yellow, red, and blue for different dinosaur shapes. Wrap each colored dough portion in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours. Preheat the oven to 350F 175C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out each colored dough portion on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use dinosaur-shaped cookie cutters to cut out dinosaur shapes from the dough. Place the dinosaur-shaped cookies onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once the cookies are completely cooled, use royal icing to decorate them with dinosaur patterns, spots, and features. Let the icing set before packaging the cookies as favors or enjoying them!
