Do you feel prepared for the challenging days? I believe knowing how to operate, within Survival Mode, is one of the most crucial mental health skills that is so often overlooked. Sometimes instead of telling people that their best life is coming, we need to give them tools for making it through THIS day. Survival mode requires a combination of emotional, cognitive and planning skills that can be overwhelming to execute in a moment of panic. When the plan is just to never enter Survival Mode, we set ourselves up for failure. What ends up happening is we don’t plan for Survival Mode and then when we need to enter it, we do so with little thought, in a reactive state. This adds to the panic and uncertainty, often associated with Survival Mode. It also contributes to the guilt and shame we feel around being in Survival Mode because we see it as a failure instead of a necessary part of our mental health. J.
