This line by @eve.ewing, from her book 1919, spoke to me as an allusion to Carl Sandberg, as a reworking of the Chicago motto, as an ode to the prairie, as a celebration of the people’s history, and in researching and understanding the 1919 riots and of the current protests across the country. It felt like a good place to start as my submission for the upcoming show- Paper Signs of the Times by @electro_pepper and @heartandbonesigns. With support from @iunschoolofthearts @paintgaryindiana the show will be held @lubeznikcenterforthearts. Proceeds from the show will go to support the Black Lives Matter movement and youth arts programs in Gary, IN. #blacklivesmatter #eveewing #signpainting #alwayshandpaint #papersignsofthetimes #papersigns #signwriters #protestsigns #signsofthetimes #oneshotpaint #type #chicago #handlettering (at Chicago, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEsBfGxpACb/?igshid=chs81ipvn0vx
