They'd all taken out their containers and had started to eat, until Michael looked over at Dwayne.
He hadn't moved. He'd also opened his container - beef and broccoli - but hadn't touched it. Instead, Dwayne was looking down at the food with an expression that was borderline suspicious.
"It's the same," David says to him, without looking up. Like he knows what's going through Dwayne's head.
"Mm," was Dwayne's only response.
Paul glanced over. "If you don't like it you can have the rest of the rangoons."
"Dairy," Marko said, and Paul's face fell.
"Oh yeah."
What the hell was going on? Paul had explained to Michael that Dwayne always got beef and broccoli. What was the problem?
Again without looking up from his own meal, David held out his hand. Dwayne promptly set the container into it. He takes up a piece of vegetable, pops it into his mouth and chews it. Then a strip of beef.
"It's a little saltier and the gravy's thicker," David proclaims.
"Fine," Dwayne sighs, and takes the carton back. He starts eating, but there's a line between his eyebrows. He takes in each bite like he's trying to forget he's even eating it.
