Hafiz Saeed faces fresh legal action as NIA court issues non-bailable warrant
In one of the latest national news developments, a Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jammu has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Hafiz Saeed, the founder of the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in connection with the investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack.
The court's decision has become one of the top news headlines in Hindi, as it marks another significant step in India's legal action against those accused of orchestrating cross-border terrorism.
Warrant linked to Pahalgam terror attack investigation
The non-bailable warrant was issued after the NIA filed a supplementary chargesheet naming Hafiz Saeed as one of the key accused in the Pahalgam terror attack case. Investigators have alleged that Saeed played a central role in planning and directing the attack through the banned terrorist organisation.
Officials said the warrant is intended to advance legal proceedings, as Saeed is believed to be outside India's jurisdiction.
NIA seeks stronger legal action
According to the NIA, Saeed has been deliberately avoiding arrest and remains in Pakistan. The agency told the court that securing his presence before an Indian court is currently not possible and sought an open-dated non-bailable warrant to enable further legal action.
The warrant also strengthens the agency's efforts to pursue additional legal measures, including proceedings that may continue even in the accused's absence, if permitted under the law.
Case follows supplementary chargesheet
The court order came shortly after the NIA submitted its supplementary chargesheet in the case. Besides naming Saeed, the agency has linked the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba and its proxy outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF), to the attack. Multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have been invoked in the investigation.
Investigators believe the additional evidence submitted strengthens the case against those accused of planning and supporting the attack.

The issuance of the warrant does not mean an immediate arrest, as Saeed remains outside India. However, it allows investigators to continue legal proceedings and take further action under Indian law.
