MIND-STORM ... I hang my head and brace for the impact of a thoughtless barrage of angry words swirling in my mind like a tornado; these relentless lies landing like truths. The fury of these words like the raindrops in a raging storm; big, loud, persistent. Weighing heavy on my heart, my soul, echoing over and over, resonating in my mind. I pause, looking in the mirror, revealing tears. I am shocked back into peace, my eyes like the eye of the storm. I am, in this moment, safe; seen. It often amazes me, the absoluteness used to judge the lives of people whose existence is layers of grey upon grey. Escape is rarely a matter of just walking away. It’s often a slow, hard-wrung road of scraping inch by inch together for yourself, and that too on the days that you don’t lose any further ground. People who choose to dwell in places of hurt rarely suffer from a lack of effort, but rather from the exhaustion that seemingly endless struggles and defeats breed. And that’s the part that’s curiously invisible.
