So the good ones have spoken– well, amen.

Because it’s a little different from canon.

Primarily because Qrow in LS doesn’t drink/hasn’t gotten drunk in a while/tries to hide it from his daughters when he does.

But after he finds out that Oz is presumed dead, Qorbyn is presumed dead, and Olivia is presumed dead, he immediately goes back to that as a means of coping, and he falls in HARD.

Once Oz appears and he is, in fact, not dead. Qrow lays off slightly, but is still getting drunk pretty often because of his daughters and all the old memories coming back to him about losing everything all over again. (Aka losing STRQ, Summer, Raven, etc.)

Blaine and Jasmine arrive in Mistral to tell Qrow and RNJR about what the deal is in Atlas, and that Qorbyn and Olivia are staying with them.

Qrow at this point, gathers up enough hope to at least make an effort to reel himself in, but doesn’t quit completely.

Then they get to Atlas, and he sees his daughters, but as happy as he is, he’s seeing them at their worst. Which is the push he needs to try to quit drinking completely. He isn’t okay by any means, but he feels like he has to be for Qorbyn and Olivia. (Important note: Oz is in a similar boat and journey, albeit with his own nuances, seeing as in LS, Oz also struggles with alcoholism, past life shit YAAAAY /s)

Qrow meets Clover in Atlas and is instantly BITTER. This guy seems to have absolutely everything, he’s got friends who care about him, two kids, and a top tier job. Of course over time Clover kinda accidentally weasels his way into a friendship with Qrow because they’re put on a shit ton of missions together (thanks James.), and Qrow starts to see the downsides to having a Good Luck semblance.

People take advantage of you, you worry about people only wanting you for your semblance, that your friends aren’t actually your friends, that you’re put on a pedestal.

Clover reminds Qrow a lot of Pyrrha. And he can’t help but feel bad.

But most importantly, you still deal with the abandonment issues of people leaving you. (As in: the mother to Ivy basically abandoned him and his kids)

So the two start bonding a significant amount, and become good friends. Especially when Ivy and Olivia become friends too.

But as we all know, Clover ends up dead at the hands of Tyrian, and Qrow, instead of going back to drinking, begins trying to figure out how to commit murder. Somewhere in here he begins to be protective of Ivy.

Once Ruby and Yang go missing, Qrow is stuck in Vacuo wondering what happened to them, but swearing he would be better for everyone he cares about, something something actively trying to look at his problems and solve them instead of shoving his emotions down. (This is also when Qorbyn ends up going off and doing her thing in terms of healing because she realizes that she can’t heal and also be worried about the opinions of people she cares about, but that’s for a different post.)

Ruby and Yang come back, volume 10 happens, etc.

Summary: Qrow loved Ozpin the same way he loved every beautiful, tragic thing in his life: quietly, loyally, and long after they're dead. Ruby grew up watching her family mourn the people they love.

- Ozpin Tells his kids stories of his past lives

- he tries to normalize the reincarnation process for his kids instead of hiding it, just asks that they don’t go around talking about it.

- he of course leaves out some of the more gruesome details. For their sake.

- He Wholeheartedly supports Qorbyn’s deep dives for information on Vytal/Old Remnant

- He doesn’t like to ask for help, so the others are quick to notice when he needs it.

- Ozpin, the cuddler ever

- Both love to pat the girls’ heads and also give them hugs

- Both are only really cuddly with their family, otherwise, they’re not very much like that with anyone else.

- Ozpin falls asleep easily, especially when he feels safe.

- this usually is on the couch, taking a nap with the girls when they were little, or on top of Qrow.

- Both heal their inner children through the kids

- So many smooches to Qrow

- Ozpin’s first kiss with Qrow was an excited thank you kiss for helping him complete a mission

- he was MORTIFIED when he realized what he did (Qrow laughed and said “love me that much, do you lover boy?”

- HE WAS EVEN MORE MORTIFIED.

- didn’t interact with Qrow for a week out of sheer embarrassment.

- Qrow got in his head about it until Oz inevitably asked him if he wanted to date

- Qrow played it cool “yeah sure, I like you, so let’s do it.”

- in private he’s like “SCCCCCOOOOORRRRRREEEEEE”

- Ozpin is the happiest he’s ever been.

- The Family has to move around a lot due to Salem, so the girls struggle with making friends

- this murders Ozpin and Qrow inside, but they’re glad they introduced the girls to James and Glynda’s kids, along with Theo and Xanthe’s son.

- Olivia and Qorbyn have rancid vibes off of Leo.

- they can’t prove it. But they know something is there.

- Qrow and Ozpin wear their rings with the other’s choice of metal (gold for Ozpin, silver for Qrow)

- Qrow’s ring actually has three points on it, making it double as a small brass knuckle.

- Ozpin’s can extend into a claw. Although he rarely uses it unless he absolutely has to. (He has stabbed an intruders eye with it before)

- Ozpin has an auric disorder

- Ozpin’s auric disorder results in his aura being flimsy and having holes in some spots, this gene would later result in Qorbyn’s auric disorder and lack of aura glands altogether

- Meanwhile Qrow has a passive semblance, which Olivia would later inherit

- Qrow’s semblance is not Bad Luck, its passive Probability Manipulation.

- he’s just depressed so it’s a self fulfilling prophecy.

- When Qrow eventually meets Vesper Zenith, this is pointed out to him.

- In which he loses his mind because what the fuck do you mean it’s NOT BAD LUCK.

- WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS LITERALLY JUST MY DEPRESSION AND JEALOUSY AND NIHILISM EFFECTING MY SEMBLANCE

- he starts to notice that good things tend to happen to the people he cares about, and he realizes that Dr. Zenith is correct

- (side thing, I’m in a call as I’m writing this, FANTASTIC quote my buddy @sealsgrimm and I came up with for Dr. Zenith: “I’m sorry to victim blame, but this IS your fault, Qrow.”)

- Ozpin’s semblance is Shadow Manipulation, if there’s a shadow, he can manifest it into the 3rd dimension

- he used to make little shadows to humor Qorbyn and Olivia when they were younger :]

- he also “counts sheep” by using his semblance

- Qrow sleeps on his stomach

- Ozpin sleeps on his back

- both are confused on how the other can do that

- Qrow cannot sleep on his back because. Well. Snoring.

- Ozpin can’t sleep on his stomach because neck pain.
