Ā Ā I know itās been a long time since Iāve written to you. I wish I could give you a plausible excuse for not writing sooner, but really thereās no good reason for delaying an owl to my mother. You gave birth to me and yet I canāt manage to write on time. Women, especially mothers, are the true oddities and wonders of this world. I hope you can forgive me for failing at writing mother, but you know that in my mind youāre always my top priority.Ā
Ā Ā Either way, how have you been mother? You donāt have to worry about me, everythingās been going great so far. As you know Iāve been chosen as one of the champions to represent Hogwarts. Iām pretty sure father has already giving you more than enough news on that. I wish I had you here so we could speak. Itās all exciting to be honest, we never know what challenge awaits us next. But in all honesty, Iām nervous. Even though I hate to admit it to myself, Iām nervous that I might not live up to the expectations that everyone suddenly expects from me. Maybe thatās what Potter is here for. Itās easy to put on a brave face in front of my Hufflepuff companions, but itās still frightening looking in the mirror at night and wondering if Iāll see the same image again. Which of course is an idiotic thought since the challenges are assured to be safe. I promise Iām not writing just to scare you mother, but I guess thatās why Iāve been delaying so much. Because thereās so much on my mind that I wish you would know.
Ā I rather avoid more talk about the tournament, I have something Iām sure youāve been curious about. Yes, I have someone Iām interested in. Her name is Cho Chang. Sheās a rather pretty girl one year underneath me. Cho is of Asian decent, quite good in her classes, and has the prettiest smiles and laughs Iāve seen/heard. Weāve talked many times before but she has just recently shown interested in me. I never really thought Iād care for her in any way, especially because of the rumors about her interest in Harry Potter. Actually Iāve seen her quirky reactions when I speak of him, but I think Iām just doubting myself and her good character. But yess.. your long awaited answerā¦yes Iām planning on asking her to the Yule Ball. Ā I promise to send you pictures and everything on the dot.Ā
Anyways, I have another bit of good news. Because of the publicity Iām getting over the tournament, I apparently caught the eye of a professional quidditch coach. He owled me saying that as soon as the tournament was over, whether I won or not, he wanted to scout me and see if I was good enough to be in a professional quidditch team. I wonāt tell you which team just yet, letās leave it a surprise for father. But if it all works out, your son is going to make you proud mother! Iāll be able to properly pay all our familiesā debts and fully take care of the house. The future if looking bright. Once I get enough money for everything, Iāll take you to France. I know youāve always wanted to go there, and Iāll make sure father gets his fun too.Ā
By the way, talking about fun, I recently had the oddest of experiences. I met this girl named Vie. Someway, somehow, she managed to burn one of the curtains in an empty classroom. I had to help put it out, but that was an interesting experience as it was since the flames didnāt seem to want to put out. I had stopped her blonde friend from sneaking into the kitchens before, but I never expected this from their group! While I think youāll respect Cho, Iām sure youāll love Vie. Actually the stunt kind of reminded me of you and your Hogwarts stories.Ā
Iām sorry if this turned into more of a ramble, but youāre really the only person I have confidence in to share this rambles to. But I donāt want you to worry mother. I promise Iāll be alright, you donāt have to strain yourself over anything. After this year, everything will turn up for our family and weāll be living great. By now my burn is healed up and the scar is fading. Nothing can be worse than a dragonās burn, so you can rest easily. Say hello to father on my behalf. Also tell him that I got an autographed picture of Krum for him, even if he protests that he suddenly dislikes him as a player.
With love, Ā Ā Ā Ā Your son, Cedric.
