Get ready for something big because my brain decided to do a comparison between Shion, Mizuki and Rimiko! Why? Because all three of them have something in common...Being in a Yakuza crime family.
They're so similar yet so different in their own ways!!!! But will also make a defend post for Rumiko x Sojiro or as I would like to call them Rumjiro.
But that'll be for a different time because Rumjiro means to much to me and Sojiro loved her, I have my evidence and proof as to why! Anyways I'm getting off topic here!!!
Okay so how Shion, Rumiko and Mizuki all play together? Easy Yakuza life and how it affected them.
Rumiko was married into the Shimada clan and had two sons.
Shion was awoken and turned into a "training bot" by the Hashimoto clan before keeping a low profile before slaughtering them and the elders before rising into power.
Mizuki was an orphan and Shion adopted him and trained him like her own son but tried to make a carbon copy of her.
So far we got the basic down, they all lived in a Yakuza clan household, but each of them never asked to be part of the clan life, let alone walk down that path.
For Rumiko it was an arranged marriage between her and Sojiro, the clan life wasn't for her, she loved her husband and her son's but her whereabouts are unknown at the moment since she "Abandoned" her family. (Which I understand but truly something pushed her away because she stayed until the very end.)
Shion again during the crisis was awoken and felt every single abuse she endured by the hands of the Hashimoto clan, instead of running away she fought back. By laying low, studying their weaknesses and rose into power but developed a taste for bloodlust, which coincides with her trauma as I won't excuse it, as it got to the point where she found Mizuki and saw herself in him before taking him in under her wing as a mother-figure to him. (although I do have a theory as to why she wears her humanoid mask because either the Hashimoto beat her to the point her endoskeleton is bare and the wires are all exposed.)
Mizuki as we all know was adopted into the Hashimoto clan by Shion and like Rumiko he left but he did something that Rumiko couldn't do. Stand up against Shion before leaving her and the Hashimoto clan. Which is something he learned that he was being a weapon but still cared for Shion still even though it's gonna take a long time for him to heal.
But here comes the tricky part.
Rumiko & Shion are both mothers. Although in a different type of format but at the same time Rumiko & Mizuki are the same because they didn't ask to walk down the Yakuza lifestyle/being raised into it.
The reason why Shion & Rumiko are mothers is because they both have sons.
Now each of them had their own teaching skills. (Even though my HC for rumiko is almost canon were her spending time with the people of Kanezaka with her sons)
Shion taught Mizuki how to survive like how she survived. this scene right here shows that Mizuki knows deep down that Shion must at least care for him.
Which don't get me wrong it does make sense, she taught him, gifted him a weapon, trained him how to fight and so on.
Although she went about it the wrong way, she wanted a carbon copy of herself because if she were to "die" she would at least want an heir to lead the Hashimoto clan to being ruthless and blood thirsty towards others. Because remember she took him in because he was a survivor, because he can survive like she did.
But with Rumiko now get ready for this because my ass was right about this. Rumiko taught Hanzo & Genji compassion, kindness but moreover at the very least taught them that it's okay to be free spirited!! Moreover my canon moment with Rumiko teaching them about loyalty & trust.
Rumiko & Shion are similar is some way shape or form. But what's different about them is how they survived, I still don't have ALL of the context clues about Rumiko because the devs are cowards and I haven't heard a single Rumiko voiceline!!!
But what I do know is that Rumiko showed her love, she showed her kindness, her compassion, her honestly, moreover she showed her heart to those around her. She was kind spirited, she loved her husband and her sons, but she never loved the clan life, it wasn't meant for her, as the one thing she couldn't do was adapt to it.
Unlike Shion who did, she adapted right away, and rose her way into power but that left scars, physical and mental scars. We don't know what her face looks like, but I could imagine it looks beyond repair, but she adapted her ways to be more humanoid to hide her trauma but when it surfaces she becomes unstable.
Which brings my theory as to why Rumiko left, she would have at the very least became like Shion.
Now going onto Rumiko & Mizuki.Oh where do I even start with them...
They both weren't meant to for the Yakuza life for many reasons. Rumiko & Mizuki are kind hearted people, they try to see the good in everyone, she and Mizuki are more similar if anything but the downside is that did Rumiko learn how to fight?
That's a question for another time, but what they both have in common is that they care about those around them. Mizuki cares about the yokai, they're his family not to mention Kiriko is his family. Toshiro is his father figure whom adopted him and making sure that Mizuki didn't stray off going down the path that Shion went.
Rumiko on the other hand, people adored her, the citizens adored her, fucl I'm even positive that omnics adored her!
Mizuki & Rumiko aren't violet people, they don't get a thrill from it. Their both soft heart and kind, they can break away from a toxic household but of course the outcome can always be dire, just Mizuki backstabbed Shion right away and told her in her "face" even though Rumiko went away silently.
Rumiko, Shion and Mizuki are so similar that it's quite sad they're very similar in someway but different too, each of them went down the Gokudō path, marriage, a training bot, and being adopted.
They're tragic one way or another, I do believe there were good moments for Mizuki and Rumiko. Mizuki with Toshiro and spending time with him, getting to him while Toshiro treated Mizuki like his own flesh and blood.
Rumiko loved her family, she at least spent time with Sojiro and her boys, after all Rumiko did tame a dragon until the dragon trainer vanished without a goodbye which made Sojiro spiral.
Overall I do wish for Mizuki to have voicelines about Toshiro or at the very least feel some type of way about Shion as well. Without having a voiceline with her that is, I wanna hear his actual thoughts about her since deep down he still cares about her.
Mizuki, Shion and Rumiko are tragic characters about falling into the Yakuza life, except two escaped with scars and one stayed craving the violence and a deep theory that Shion killed Sojiro Shimada herself.
Such beautifully tragic characters but I'm still waiting for more Rumiko lore, because I need more details on whether or not Genji will convince Hanzo to help him find their mother, even better if they'll drag Kiriko & Mizuki along the way with them.
Augh honestly the Yakuza life tragedy, but I cannot wait to see more to come.
