Curious how you think Frankenstein's creature might get on with Quasimodo (the original, not the Disney one). On the one hand, they both know what it's like to be isolated and despised for their horrific appearance that they had no control over and especially to the extent that they face it. However, Quasimodo was raised by Frollo which, while more of a master-servant relationship, is still more than the Creature had, but the Creature also has more independence. What do you think?
that’s a very good point!! i certainly think there would be some resentment on the being’s side; he’d definitely be very upset by the idea that quasimodo was chosen and adopted by a man like frollo, when he -- the being, that is -- was rejected so cruelly by both frankenstein and the de laceys. but with the being, it’s kind of a ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ situation--? despite his envy and bitterness over how much better quasimodo’s situation was, i think he’d still bond with the man. there aren’t a lot of people who get what it’s like to live as someone so horribly deformed, and while quasimodo isn’t quite as bad as the being, he’d still get it -- and i think that understanding would eclipse the being’s negative emotions.Â
