30. A song that reminds you of yourself

A nice thing about this ask list is the answers require a little thought. The bad thing I have stuff to do later today but my brain was pretty distracted by this ask.

My pick is "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie.

I downplay it because I don't take adequate care of myself (heh) but I have enough stress and anxiety to be diagnosed with a disorder. It certainly can feel insurmountable and it's isolating but what makes a better day possible is believing in hope and love. As corny as that sounds, that's what I believe.

Ah this is a good question! I'll give a 3-part answer.

The first is I didn't really know, it just sort of happened. Sort of like when you cook a lobster by bringing the water to a boil. 🦞🌡️

The second answer, I asked my wife this at lunch and she gave a similar kind of "IYKYK" quasi-answer, but what we arrived at as two (unwitting, then) autistics is: can you unmask with that person? Do you feel like you don't need to pretend to be someone else to receive affection?

The third answer is that my father-in-law died between Christmas and New Year's Day 2000. When your girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever goes through a legit crisis, it's a litmus test. No one will fault you, I think, if you decide the relationship is in too immature a stage to pick up the heavy emotional slack of supporting a grieving partner.

Luckily you picked something I have heard of.

I am not reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, not from a lack of interest, but partly because of competing interests (work, kids, et al) and partly because, due to either age, neurodivergence, long COVID brain fog, or some combination, it's really hard to read without putting myself to sleep after a few pages. Audiobooks help, but it kind of sucks (I used to read quite a bit), but then I have to wait till the kids aren't around to listen to more adult books.

I worked until 3 am Sunday, then I ADHD'd this ask.
