What was the number one thing that made you start looking into being a Willow Ptarmigan?

Is there anything you do daily that makes you feel the most connected to being a Ptarmigan? (examples: certain foods you regularly eat, an activity you do the most, etc.)

Is there any music or other media that you connect to yourself being a Ptarmigan? (example: a particular song that reminds you of being a bird)

What made me question ptarmigans was a ling standing history i have with grouse my nicknames through out life are as follows "chicken girl" "chicken guy" (transitioned) "the guy with the chickens" "the farmer guy" "the guy who loves roosters?" So i always had a fascination with grouse (technically fowl but i digress)

When I learned about prairie chickens I became so excited i never fixated on something so intensely and would not shut up about the ears on that thang. Many years passed of being a wolf with a grouse fixation before i saw a ptarmigan video and my boyfriend would play it for me everytime i was sad and id feel better and comforted.

I stumbled on later that early proto polish peoples used ptarmigans as sacrificial animals quite a lot out numbering any other species by a decent margin. As a pagan and polish this felt significant and tied to my fixation towards grouse.

Perhaps it was fate perhaps it was a coincidence but i found ptarmigans to fit my emotional needs once i felt safe and not in danger.

Most often it is how i engage in the outdoors. I try my best to identify plants and learn how to pick, harvest, and test when plants are best eaten, how to regrow them, how to cook with them!

Besides that learning deeply about plants on a spiritual level. Learning what a plant can teach or lessons i can learn from it. I find a big importance on seeds and new growth.

For ptarmigans those details are needed for survival so i do the same!

Dancing by doing lil stomps makes me feel more connected than singing tbh. Lots of grouse lek and boy my house sure is flat and perfect for displaying a dance!

To your question,

Its my understanding that alterhuman refers more broadly to anyone that isn't quite a human. If it sounds vague that's because it kind of is? Human+, or human-, or some secret third thing. Otherkin are typically considered alterhuman but not all alterhumans are otherkin. It's a broad category for lots of different identities.

Nonhuman more specifically refers to creatures that don't identify as human at all. They are whatever their types are and nothing else. Not human+, or human-, or human anything.

I tend to identify myself as an alterhuman, since I still have plenty human in me.

In general, it's a pretty open and supportive community, and the majority of beings I met there were very kind.

However, there's one individual on the subreddit who has been quite negative and controlling over the community. Me and several of my other friends have noticed this behavior and condemn it.

One day, I decided to put together a little self-appreciation slideshow for my kintype. If you know anything about me, you're probably aware that I have a pretty rough past and present, so I figured this would be a time to shed light on the positivity I do have. Both me and my people want to talk about the good parts of the CAR that the media/news doesn't show you, so I did just that.

Well, as you might have guessed, this person (who is NOT placekin) wasn't on board with the idea. They first said that I was being controversial, which I could understand. After I explained my intentions to them, they still weren't accepting. They said that my identity was (and I quote) "a bit too apache attack helicopter to be believable".

🐯: Do you wish you were your kintype? Why or why not?

Oh absolutely! If I were a pony I wouldn't have to worry about all of This *gestures to all the covoluded things that encompass human society* I'd get to graze in pastures, be admired for my pretty coat, and dump children off my back if they kick mee too hard.

🗣: Does anyone know you are otherkin? Friends, family, etc? If so, how did you tell them?

Just two friends. I just brought it up in a cinversation abiut past lives with ine friendand the ither I think It was one if those "Hey, I'm this" kind of out if the barn/closet. I'm pretty sure everyone else thinks I'm a furry, if the're even aware of what furries even are. Which also isn't untrue. I mean I want to make fursuits and at that point there's literally no denying the label.

🏔: What makes you feel closer to your kintype(s)?

Food is and movement. Horses are built for two things eating and running. Those are also easy to incorporate into my daily life, too. Moving in ways my brain interprets as Horse has been a thing for me ever since I was a child. The Headbob when I walk, turning certain ways in response to a sound, The Relaxed Hoof pose, the way shift weight from one side to the other, and certain gaits of running and walking, ect. All of these register as Equine in my brain even if they make me look more birdlike because I'm bipedal.

18. Could you tie yourself over on animal blood?

I probably could have? But if it was available, I’d much prefer human blood, because even if I’m getting animal blood from a butcher, wouldn’t it be easier to just go get human blood instead? Like, I don’t want to have to go find some money to go to a butcher, when I could just drink the blood from the people working there. But yes, I probably could have tied myself over on animal blood if need be.
