Just a warning, this is my first fanfic! It does have age regression themes, so if you’re not a fan, I ask that you respectfully just don’t read it <3 also, this will definitely have some angst !THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION! (I've been working on this chapter for ages... I am sorry it took so long)
“Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Look!” You jump happily, grabbing Han’s arm while pointing at a Capybara. The guys decided to take you to the zoo on a random Thursday morning.
Han’s eyes widen in the boba like form, looking enthusiastic for you. “Oh, baby! What is it?”
You drag him towards the railing to get a closer look, “a capybara!”
“Jagiya,” Minho calls softly, walking up to you. “Let Eomma put more sunblock on you.”
Minho then crouches down next to you, and gently puts more sunblock on your skin, making sure not to get in the way of the capybaras.
“Where’s dada and baba innie?” You ask, getting distracted when you notice the two are the only ones not by you, Minho now having a more difficult time applying the sunblock with you moving.
“They might be a bit slow since baba innie is pushing dada, remember?” Felix explains gently, ruffling your hair.
“Baba innie is probably tired,” you comment, still leaning a bit away from Minho to try and look down the path. “Papa should push dada!”
Changbin chuckles, “then papa would be slower bc dada would constantly mess with papa.”
“You act like I bother you all the time,” Seungmin replies to Changbin, Jeongin and Seungmin finally catching up with the group.
Changbin turns to look at Seungmin, “it’s because you do.”
“Do you believe him, puppy?” Seungmin asks, Jeongin parking Seungmin right by you.
You shake your head giggling despite knowing all Seungmin and Changbin do is playfully bicker to one another.
“What are we looking at?” Jeongin asks, looking in a whole different direction.
“The capybaras!” You say excitedly, going to Jeongin and pulling him to the railing.
After some time spent admiring the capybaras, you grab Chan’s hand and lead all of them to different parts of the zoo. At some point, you sit on Seungmin's lap, getting pushed around when you get too tired to walk.
“Where to next, little star?” Chan asks, now in charge of pushing the wheelchair.
“The gift shop!” You reply, pointing to the big gift shop at the exit.
“But that’s the exit,” Felix explains softly. “You want to leave already?”
You think for a moment, “I want to buy stuffies.”
“You choose only one,” Minho speaks up. Wanting to set a limit now before you throw a tantrum in the middle of the gift shop.
Your excitement immediately leaves your body, a pout forming on your face as you turn and look at Minho. “That’s not fair, there'll be a lot to choose from.”
Minho raises an eyebrow. “Jagiya.”
You immediately know by his tone that he’s expecting better.
“Was that a kind way to respond?” He continued, keeping his voice soft but firm.
Your shoulders slump a little, your eyes dropping to your lap. “…No, Eomma.”
“I know it’s hard to choose,” Minho says, his voice staying calm. “But pouting and saying it’s unfair isn’t going to change the answer.”
You let out a tiny sigh, “I’m sorry.”
Minho smiles softly, gently smoothing a hand over your hair. “Thank you. Now, you can take your time picking one out. No one will rush you.”
“Having her pick just one out is crazy,” Han says quietly to Minho when you are further away.
Minho looks at Han, completely unfazed. “You know if we don’t set a limit, she’ll want the whole store.”
In the gift shop, you sit on Seungmin's lap. After Minho told you that you can only choose one, the excitement you once felt faded a bit.
“Look how cute this giraffe is, puppy.” Seungmin exclaims, breaking you out of your thoughts as he holds it up.
You smile softly, “it is cute.”
Your tone immediately threw him off, but he didn’t want to mention it. He puts it back and you both continue.
“Puppy?” Seungmin asks.
“I wanna walk.” You say softly as you start to climb off of his lap.
As everyone continues through the gift shop, Chan notices something feels different.
Normally, you’d dart from shelf to shelf, picking up every stuffed animal that caught your eye. You’d excitedly ask everyone’s opinion, hug more stuffies than you can hold at once, or beg to see the ones on the highest shelves.
Today, you simply wandered. You glanced at things. Smiled at a few. But overall, just kept walking.
At that point, Han quietly leaned toward Seungmin.
“She isn’t acting like herself.”
Seungmin nods almost immediately. “I noticed.”
“Sunbeam, look.” Felix picks up a tiny red panda plush. “Doesn’t he have the cutest face?”
You give Felix a small smile, and nod.
“Do you want to hold him?” Felix asks, trying to encourage you.
You hesitate before giving a small shake of your head. “No, thank you.”
That answer alone makes everyone pause, because normally you’d absolutely want to cuddle the stuffie.
Changbin whispers to the others, “think she’s getting tired?”
And Jeongin answers, "I don't think she’s tired.”
He watches you browse another shelf without stopping, "I think something changed.”
Later, when you’re all sitting down for lunch or taking a break on a bench, Seungmin gently checks in, “you’ve been awfully quiet since we came into the gift shop.”
You shrug, moving the food around on your plate. “I’m just tired.”
“There wasn’t anything you liked, muse?” Hyunjin asks, taking a bite of his burger.
You shake your head, “not really.”
“There was a soft and fluffy capybara!” Han points out, a smile on his face as he tries to encourage you.
You smile the same small smile you’ve been giving since you stepped into the store. “It was cute.”
“Are you feeling okay, baby?” Chan asks, getting out his chair to kneel beside you, his hand immediately touching your forehead.
You nod, “I’m just tired.” You tell Chan the same thing you told Seungmin, which no one is buying it.
“Is it because I said you can only choose one?” Minho asks, placing his drink down, now looking slightly guilty.
You shake your head, not wanting Minho to feel like he did anything wrong.
“After we eat, I was thinking that we can go see the otters.” Changbin speaks up, not wanting the mood to change despite already changing.
You don’t reply, just slowly eating while the others converse around you.
“Eomma doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Felix leans in to you, keeping his voice down. “Baba Lixie wants you to choose as many stuffies as you want.” His sweet smile shines towards you, trying to project his brightness to you.
“It’s okay,” you reply softly, sporting the same small smile. “I didn’t really want any.”
It was like time stopped around you as all the guys stopped their conversations and looked at you. Didn’t want anything? That is not how their little girl is.
Hyunjin’s gasp can be heard from a mile away, his eyes wider than you can imagine. “Who are you and what did you do with my sweet little girl?”
“Yah!” Changbin practically yelled, standing up immediately.
Normally, their reactions would earn a giggle, but you just seem genuinely confused. “What?”
Chan swallows, “Little star…” He doesn’t even know what to ask. Because the issue isn’t the stuffed animal anymore. It's that their little girl who was squealing over capybaras an hour ago is now calmly saying she doesn’t want a plush at all.
“Maybe after the otters, we can go home.” You say, not wanting Chan to finish his sentence, even if he could.
“I think I need a minute,” Minho abruptly says before walking off outside.
When Minho walks off, you know it’s your fault. He feels guilty for something that truly wasn’t his fault.
“I don’t feel little anymore,” you blurt out quietly when Minho is out of earshot. “The gift shop wasn’t as exciting as it is when I feel small.”
It was like light has shined on the problem, the guys can finally realize that that has been the issue.
“Little or not,” Chan starts, a gentle smile on his face. “You deserve a stuffie or something.”
“You think Minho is upset with me?” You ask, looking up at them.
“I think he is upset with himself,” Han explains, leaning back in his chair. Finally relaxing after realizing the true issue
You look at the door he went out of and stand up, “I’ll go talk to him.”
You walk out the dining building and notice he isn’t there. You walk a bit and that’s when you notice he is inside the gift shop with five stuffed animals in his arms as he still walks around.
“What happened to choosing only one?” You ask, in a slight teasing tone as you walk into the gift shop.
Minho turns to look at you, his eyes slightly glassy as if he’s holding in tears he refuses to let fall. “I changed my mind,” he answers, his voice trying to sound playful but you can hear the underlying guilt.
You smile softly at him, now standing by his side. “I wasn’t upset with you.” You decide to tell him, not wanting to beat around the bush. “I understood ‘only choosing one’ but I just slowly stopped feeling small.”
“You stopped because of me,” Minho responds, as if that is what your ending sentence would sound like.
You let out a small laugh, shaking your head. “I didn’t stop because of you.”
He still looks at the whole selection of plushies, as if the five he has isn’t enough. “I’m sorry, Jagiya.”
“You don’t need to apologize,” you assure him, hugging him from behind.
“I still feel guilty,” he says softly, grabbing another stuffie.
You take it out of his hand, “you don’t have to feel guilty.” Your words fade as you look at the plush that you took from Minho. It’s a fox stuffie, the ears so soft to the touch. Your eyes drift to the ones Minho is holding. A wolf, a bunny, a pig, a ferret, and a quokka. It makes you smile, he is trying to get the animals that are similar to their Skzoo’s.
Minho notices you’ve gone quiet, but he doesn’t mention it. Instead, he keeps looking while also keeping a close eye on you. You know your regression signs, how you sometimes wander off because your mind is stuck on one thing. He feels the weight slowly leave his shoulders as you hold the fox close and continue to look around.
Ten minutes later, you and Minho are walking out the gift shop with two bags filled with stuffed animals, eight plushies total. Minho is holding both bags in one hand, and your other hand in the other.
“I see the dynamic duo has made up,” Seungmin teases, taking a sip of his drink.
“We also see Eomma couldn’t resist spoiling our little princess.” Felix says with a smile.
The rest of their meal was spent with you on Minho’s lap, showing each of your caregivers the stuffies you and Minho picked out, each representing each of them.
