So incredibly proud of my @teamniklasedin trio for powering through these past few weeks w/o 🐐 @niklasedin Way to friggin go @oggelit @rasmuswrana & @cr1ppa You’re really cementing your status as the best curling team in history 👏 I’m suffering from a severe case of Nik Edin withdrawal but my remaining #Icevengers have been doing so well, I don’t need a Nik Edin patch (it’s a dad joke from YT chat). Also, I’m guessing that’s coffee in Crippa’s hand ☕️ . . Sad that my Swedes couldn’t defend their title in Penticton, but the SF sure did have some great moments, including Oskar’s super spinny trick shot that almost worked. I need to add that to the list of curling things I’ll attempt & fail miserably at when I try it on craptastic hockey arena ice (I’ve tried Nik’s spin move 3x to date to horrible results). All in all it was a successful 6 week tour in Canada - GSOC drought ended plus wins in Toronto & Swift Current. Team Edin had a 19 game winning stream prior to today’s SF loss, with 14 of those games played as a trio. The team did so well the whole “playing as a trio is an advantage so we need to change the rules” thing won’t go away. It’s only an advantage when Team Edin keep winning as a trio, but when Gushue won the Brier as a trio it was heralded as an even bigger victory than normal because playing as a trio is such a disadvantage… I’m exhausted just watching Rasmus sweep. I hope my Swedes get plenty of rest leading up to the European Championships. Excited to see super spare extraordinaire Daniel throw second stones. The @teamniklasedin trio began their defense of the Penticton Curling Classic title w/ a 7-2 win over the Islanders. By now many curling fans are aware of 🐐 @niklasedin ‘s knee surgery. Apparently one of the commentators of this morning’s game tried their hardest to lobby the Swedish trio to let him play w/ them when he drove them to the mixer last night LOL. I’m so incredibly proud of how well @oggelit @rasmuswrana & @cr1ppa have stepped up & continue to win w/o Nik. They’re simply incredible. They’ve been so good one of the comments on YT chat last weekend was how we need to change the rules because playing as a trio used to be a disadvantage, now it’s an advantage. I’ve been saying that the #GSOC title drought would end for years now. The entire quad since I became @teamniklasedin ‘s super major hardcore fangirl went by w/o any Slam wins. I don’t think anybody expected my #Swedish #Icevengers to win this weekend, especially as a trio, but Swedes the most decorated Olympic curler in history in charge & @oggelit knows how to win. Commentators love to gosh over how talented Oskar is, while the fans (teens, women, and gays alike) all want to see him in a future Curling Cares calendar 😂 What’s been interesting to see this quad is a little bit more of Oskar’s sense of humor - 1) When he said Merry Christmas after a shot didn’t go their way & 2) He said that Crippa’s the one you want drawing the pin to score one after the throwing order snafu. . . Nicknamed The Professor, Oskar was considered a curling prodigy & a natural. He has every single major medal that Nik has & then some because he’s amazing at mixed doubles too. I just don’t think the Canadians in the arena & at home gave him enough credit for how much talent & skills he has. Skipping Team Edin to victory as a trio is nothing short of remarkable, but what’s even more impressive is the way he’s managed to stay healthy all these years (either that or he’s just EXTREMELY good at keeping secrets especially around his injuries LOL). I hope one day I’ll get to learn how to do the lean on the broom conservation of energy non-sweep thing that he does so well, though if my first attempt at doing Nik’s 360 spin is any indication, I’ll probably be hopeless at it too. More photos from #WMCC2022 Hard to believe my first Worlds has come & gone. I survived 24 draws & 24 outfits, chronic lack of sleep, & quite the emotional rollercoaster in more ways than one. Dreading the thousands of emails that await me at work tomorrow but look forward to GSOC coverage starting Thursday & getting back to the ice to actually curl myself. I’m skipping a team in Curl SD for Saturday league (goatniklasedin) & Fireballers will stay together for Thursday league at OC Curling. My monthly SCCC pass is on auto renew so I’ll be trying to get more folks to try dedicated ice too (maybe try to get in on the Summer bonpiel waitlist? I know I need to win 2 of the jerseys that are being auctioned off since I didn’t get them directly…) * * As more articles & photos come out, I can’t help but reflect on what a journey it’s been this past quad. As team lineup changes get announced, I can’t help but stress about the possibility of any changes happening to my favorite team because if I could have my way, they’d be curling together for the next 20 years. Some Canadians will always downplay their achievements & talk about their GSOC drought or fulltime pro curlers status negatively, but the fact remains, they’re the best in the world & possibly the best team in history overall. I’d be lying if I didn’t say my heart is conflicted or my head is spinning after Worlds. It’ll be interesting to see where things end up come August. I love this team so much & want nothing but the best for them. Bonus points for continuing to rack up gold medals & tour event victories to make their curling resumes obnoxiously epic and basically untouchable.
