Favorite Minor Character (Digimon)
At one point, I was going to pick a Trailmon, honest I was! I like that they all have different personalities, and was probably the most entertained by Worm, who is so often⌠apathetic? Cynical? I donât know, but I like it when he and Kouji share moments of mutual âharumphâ-ing, which honestly might have only happened once XD
But the more I thought about it, the more I remembered I have a real there-can-be-only-one favorite, and that favorite is Oryxmon. Like, I'm actually kind of obsessed with that guy.
A beast digimon in the form of gigantic black goat wearing a holy bell, and who was clearly not 100% on board with the whole Beast Digimon Supremacy thing. Or itâs possible that he did believe in it at first, but eventually became disillusioned with Cherubimonâs goals (hence why he was so knowledgable and seemed to be in a position of respect and power within the castle, also possibly because he was the warden of those digimon destroyed by the corrupted Spirit of Darkness). Regardless, by the time our heroes meet him, Patamon is able to use his celestial digimon intuition to trust him without reservation. Oryxmon leads them through the depths of the castle to where Ophanimon is being held captive and conveys some important history along the way, effectively betraying Cherubimon.
As with many of his underlings though, Cherubimon was able to sense his duplicitousness and decided to use it to his advantage. Once Oryxmon brought the kids and their spirits to Ophanimonâs prison, he was no longer useful as a âtoolâ for Cherubimonâs plan and was destroyed. Which is a such a pity! I donât know. If youâve been following my blog for a long time youâll know I tend to gravitate towards all things ovine or caprine (which might be partially due to the impression Oryxmon made on me so long ago!), but the point is, I find him very intriguing. He is the very definition of âthings are not always what they seemâ in keeping with a lesson the group learned earlier about the Dark Continent, and furthermore, that goat has seen some things. I would be all in to know more about his role prior to Cherubimonâs corruption, what part he played in the latest human/beast war, and how he navigated life in the castle as a double agent. I also think it would have been fun if the kids could have taken a break from riding Trailmon for an episode or two and ridden around on a huge goat friend! But alas, it was not to be. Good night, sweet prince, you were removed from the narrative entirely too soon for my tastes!
