Orylans is an absolute teddy bear of a man, but he missed out on a lot of socialization because he was a migrant worker doing logging and agricultural work for multiple decade of his life, and people made assumptions about him based on his resting bitch face and the whole being over 9 ft tall thing.

He doesn't look all pretty until he joins Whitebeard's crew and Thatch decides to clean him up turning him into (Thatch's words) a heartthrob.

This transformation does nothing for Orylans's deep-rooted insecurity and shyness, nor does it cure his stutter. So he's still going to have difficulty asking anyone out.

He's a cook in the 4th Division and also tends to a small herb garden kept on The Moby Dick. In his free time, he loves to read, and he always has a book tucked into his back pocket.

Anyone willing to make the first move will find themselves with an extremely devoted and protective partner, and with the pleasure of being the first person to absolutely rock his entire world.

SFW: B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?) as embarrassing as it is to admit, Orylans hasn't had a friend since childhood. Living alone and traveling frequently makes it difficult to maintain a friendship, even if he knew how to make friends as an adult in the first place. Starting by complimenting his cooking or discussing shared interests (gardening for instance) is a safe bet, but Orylans is like a cat in how he shows his affection. He likes to sit in the same room as those he cares for, each doing their own thing. The closer you are emotionally, the closer he'll sit. He's touch starved, and loves when friends fall asleep leaning on him. It makes him feel trusted.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?) PLEASE cuddle him! He is so so painfully touch-starved. it makes him feel trusted but also loved. use him as a couch, use him as your personal space heater, cuddle this man!

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?) Orylans is a big softie. Before the Whitebeard Pirates cleaned him up, he looked grizzled and unapproachable, but he's a gentle person at heart and craves friendship and love. He's very much in control of his strength, and his movements are very careful so as not to hurt anyone unless in battle.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?) greatly depends on how well you know him and how close you are. with a loved one, his hugs are warm and the perfect pressure, all-consuming with how big of a person he is. With someone he knows less well, or where he's trying to comfort someone? very stiff and awkward, loose so the other person can easily escape from it. He loves hugs from those he cares about, although PDA does tend to fluster him easily.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?) very slow. He's never been in love before, and he wants to be absolutely sure that that's what he's feeling before he say it. …and he'll take an extra month or two to overthink.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?) Orylans doesn't have very high self-esteem, so it's very very easy to get into his own head about how a partner deserves someone better, or how someone they're talking to would be a better fit. However, he's more likely to mope about it than to actually act on any of that jealousy.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?) inexperienced. his lips are chapped and he's clumsy, but he's a quick learner and eager to prove it. once he's figured it out they're very romantic and tender.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?) things will come out very slowly over a long period of time. he's a rather private man and he has to really trust someone before he's going to let them know about all the ways he's been hurt before.

💖 Has your OC ever been in love, be it romantic or platonic or otherwise? Who with and did they ever express their feelings or keep it private? How long did these feelings persist / do they still feel this way?

Orylans spent a lot of his life alone, working out in the woods or on farms. He enjoys the idea of love but is certain he'll never find it. It's a pretty big surprise when he realizes after a decade with the Whitebeard Pirates that he's fallen in love with his best friend and commander, Thatch. It takes a further 2 years and a big push from his friends to make a move.

🍑 Where is your OC’s favourite place to relax or calm down? Recount a story of their time spent in this place! What makes it so special to them?

There's a little herb garden on The Moby Dick. Nothing crazy, just a few beds that Thatch had built, but after a while it becomes Orylans's responsibility to care for it when the crew notices his green thumb. Sometimes he'll go there even when he knows there's nothing else that needs doing, just to get away from the noise and bustle of the kitchens for a few minutes. Thatch knows and never begrudges him taking time to collect himself.

🍐 What is your OC’s mentality? Are they overall positive? Negative? A bit of both? Describe their thought patterns and reasoning behind their choice making!

When he first joins the Whitebeard Pirates, his outlook is mostly negative. At that point in his life he has been framed for murder, he's wanted by the Marines, he has no friends or family… Things do start to look up from there though, and after a year or two he feels a lot more positively about life. He still spends a lot of time and thought on choosing actions that make him seem less intimidating to others on the crew, although it isn't really necessary. Everyone there can kind of tell he's a gentle giant.

🌀 Where is your OC from? Where were they born? Do they still live there, if not why did they move? If they still live in the area how has it changed since their childhood? How many places has your OC lived in and where has been their favourite?

Orylans was born on an island in the Paradise section of The Grand Line. His family were migrant workers, going from island to island doing agricultural work and odd jobs. He's never been back to the island he was born on, and doesn't consider any particular island to be home. He's lost count of how many places he's lived in his life at this point.

Orylans is an absolutely massive centaur who is a guardian of the forest where he lives.

His sheer size means that people are typically afraid of him, and this has become a self-perpetuating cycle of him being incredibly shy and touch-starved.

He wants friendship and love, but he doesn't know how to force himself to talk to people when everyone he meets backs away slowly as if he's going to hurt them.

The Orylans x reader fic involves reader going out mushrooming and getting caught in a magical storm, twisting their ankle as they try to get home. Orylans insists that the reader wait out the storm in his cabin and carries them there, where the extent of his loneliness and touch-starved nature become very apparent as reader ends up spending the night.

I haven't decided yet if the fic will be SFW or smutty, but there is definitely a desperate for touch undercurrent regardless.
