Happy Wednesday everyone! It's the middle of the week already ☀️⁠ ⁠ My Calathea Ornata has been struggling for very many months now and I thought I wouldn't see any new leaves, let alone leaves without crispy edges. Name: Kalinga ornata My Personal Name: Spiky wubble Size: 13 cm (big boi!!) Diet: Brittle stars Special skills: The coloring of K. ornata makes it perfect for hiding in the sand, so this natural camo makes finding K. ornata exceedingly difficult, and thus most sightings of this slug are due to the poor baby washing up on a shore (usually caused by a storm). On top of this, it is theorized that the tubercles act as an extremity that can sense when food or danger is near. Odd behavior: K. ornata likes chilling on the sea floor since that's where its food seems to be, however it has also been recorded that sometimes K. ornata says "screw that" and "makes a habit of floating around like an ungainly balloon" (W.B. Rudman). When floating, K. ornata sucks in its various extremities to become essentially a round blob ready to go wherever the tide wishes to take them.

After many, many months my Calathea Ornata is showing signs of life! 🎉 It's been struggling for a long time, getting crispy leaves all the time and just leaves dying left and right. But now it's growing 4 new leaves! 🌱 . The Leca seems to be doing really well with keeping the air a little more humid around the plant. It's tough to keep this Calathea happy in the winter, with the dry air. It's now semi permanently in front of my humidifier, so hopefully that helps to keep it alive! 🌿 .
