What’s beautiful print 💚➡️ @printfestulverston Welcoming Katie Edwards back to Printfest 2022.⁠ Illustrator Katie Edwards has been closely in touch with the outdoors, the countryside and animals. Her screen print illustrations reflect this appreciation for natural beauty, yet mix this with familiar cityscapes, creating a beautiful juxtaposition. On a deeper level, zebras crossing the road or a cat's reflection taking shape as a lion are just a few examples of humorous and symbolic threads throughout Katie's work. Her use of traditional photographic and silkscreen printing techniques creates a hand-crafted, textured aesthetic. Each illustration is individually printed, and sometimes in this process different variations of one theme emerge, creating an unpredictable yet organic experience. 🌞🌝🌟⚡️🪔 Happy Diwali! My works often reveal our real world without shadows and, by effect, full of light. You would might think this extreme imbalance should lead to an effect that appears overly positive, but in actuality they reveal the same eeriness of being in complete darkness. Today I’m sharing a print from my 2017 archive which gives you a hint of shadows on the left third, but then completely disappear moving across the photograph. 👽What’s going on in this memory? Well in 2017 I had co-curated Command-Alternative-Escape for the opening week of the Venice Art Biennale. As part of this outdoor group exhibition I invited Artist Paul Kneale to realize his site specific project, Event Horizon (The 3 bare satellite dishes with red neons floating above are his sculptures📡). It was a pretty intense project to realize but also a lot of fun!
