I sigh as I open my current obsession. The book about a girl who falls in love with the wrong man.

I gaze out of the window to my left and smile at the sunshine bathing the wisteria cascading from the flower box.

Well originally that scene was going to way more brutal.

while still very cartoony, in the original take for this scene we would get to see Gummygoo's cartoony innards explode outwards, and THEN turn into confetti after traumatizing Pomni.

Child, rambling as they’re jumping around: Oh my god! That was so cool, that was so freakin’ cool. I gotta tell everyone about this, I gotta-- 

main character, grasping his forehead, wincing as he rises from the ground and looks around for the kid. He watches them for a moment, cringing at everything spilling from their mouth. The child is talking excitedly to their little rabbit-like-animal friend, squeezing it to their chest as MC comes over: Hey, uh, you can’t tell anyone about this.

Child, looks up, freezing. The rabbit-creature stares up as well with a similarly confused expression: Huh? Why? You saved me!

Main character: It’s kinda complicated okay--

Child, dropping the rabbit: Yeah, but if I told everyone then, then, then they’d stop saying all that bad stuff about you! They’d stop calling you names and saying you’re a freaky weirdo who does awful bad bad things--

Main character looking apathetic, but raises an eyebrow: they say that? They’ve said worse. It doesn’t bother me.

Child: Yeah, sure, it doesn’t. Everyone who says that’s a liar. It’s like everyone saying I’m not a real boy cause I didn’t look like one before. Just cause I say it doesn’t bother me doesn’t mean I’m saying the truth.

Main character: That’s shitty and that sucks, but this is different--

Child: How is it different? You saved my life, you could’ve just left me to get eaten by the monsters.

Main character: Because! Because I-- they’re not all just lying to you, you know? I have done some pretty bad stuff, that’s why they only ask me to come around sometimes and I’m not allowed to live in the village.

Child, peering up at the main character with a frown: Yeah but, shouldn’t doing good stuff make up for it?

Main character: ...It doesn’t work like that. You can’t erase the bad stuff you’ve done just because you did a few nice things. 

Child looks sad and unsure of what to say.

Main character swiping a hand over his face, shakes his head: Alright, enough sharing. Get outta here. Don’t let something else scrap ya. That was your one get out of death free card, okay? And keep your mouth shut.
