I have a lot of thoughts on the original pilot episode of The Owl House but I sort of see why they changed some plot elements in the first episode of the show. I honestly prefer waiting until Covention to see Lilith rather than having her as the first antagonist of the season. But she was more intimidating here than in the show proper.
I like that we saw Luz not fitting in school more in this version. It felt like we got to see more of what she was going though than in the first episode.
But why did Amity's parents thought it was a good idea to send her to a human school? This seems like a terrible idea and it would have led to someone (other than Luz) finding out that she's a witch.
Also, shout-out to Alex Hirsch! He voiced a few more characters in this pilot, like that female demon student.

A real-life Sibuna mystery worth pursuing?
As someone also interested in lost media, I’ve always wondered what this other pilot would have been like. I mis-remembered some details about it. For example, I thought only casting was completed, but it sounds like they had filmed a pilot for the show before selling the show to Nickelodeon. At that point, several re-writes and re-casting was done. But what I’m wondering is would it be worthwhile to start a lost media search for the original Anubis House pilot? It might be interesting and worthwhile pursuing!

Everyone's going to hate me, but....
Nothing in the show gets me laughing like this bit from the original pilot. It's just so witty and in-character, and it's only funnier because I swear I did stuff just like this to my parents and summer camp leaders when I was younger.
All of Stan's one-liners are amazing, but I think this one in particular should be in everyone's top ten. Saying the same word three times in a row shouldn't be this funny, but the delivery is just flawless.
