A very important history lesson from @ukraine.ua that indirectly helps to explain the reason for the Russian invasion of Ukraine. 🇺🇦🗽💙💛🗳🇺🇦

When we say Ukrainians have always stood up for democracy and dignity, we mean it 💪 On this day in 2004, the Orange Revolution started.
🗳 The run-off vote results of the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election showed that Viktor Yanukovych won over Viktor Yushchenko. The official count differed sharply from the exit polls. Domestic and foreign election monitors claimed massive corruption, voter intimidation and electoral fraud during elections.
In Kyiv and several Ukrainian cities, people started gathering to protest against the abuse of power and demand free and fair elections 🗣 Protesters wore ribbons and clothes in orange — the colour of Yushchenko's election campaign. The results of the original run-off were annulled. After a month of protest, on 26 December 2004, Yushchenko won the election in a revote. With his inauguration on 23 January 2005, the Orange Revolution ended.
The victory of this revolution became one more step toward the European future of Ukraine 🇺🇦🇪🇺 Ukrainians showed once again the true values of our democratic society.
