zolu is so funny in general but especially when you take captains orders into account. Zoro's probably the only Strawhat that can't deny his captains orders even if it's for the dumbest shit, so when they finally get married Luffy's like, "you take my last name, captains orders" and now zoro is stuck being Monkey Zoro for the rest of his life

i have a ttrpg opinion that feels gauche to share on bsky and like hitting an angry hornets nest if i share it on reddit, so instead i’ll say it here:
there’s a bunch of folks bent out of shape over critical role/darrington press’s new game, daggerheart, because they’re convinced that CR is about to abandon D&D in favor of it for campaign 4. if it were up to me i’d say DO IT because i’m sick of hasbro’s shit specifically even as WotC tries really hard to clean up the messes it and its parent company create. realistically, though?? i doubt they’ll jump into that until they can prove that daggerheart has a bit more staying power. also, remember that these people like d&d! a lot! legally it kinda sucks to have your brand so heavily built in someone else’s sandbox, but they’re ultimately still having fun there!
putting the speculation aside, i just hate this attitude of “ugh i watch for dnd! why would i watch if they’re playing something i’m not even familiar with?!!” you are weak like little baby. do you have any idea how many people watch CR who have never played dnd and have no idea about the rules beyond what they mention on stream? the real reason you watch CR, i’d venture, has a lot more to do with the cast and the types of stories they tell—2 things that are not at all dependent on a single game system! dimension 20 gets that which is why they aren’t afraid to shake things up from season to season with different systems including heavy use of modifying existing systems for their own genre! CR moving to a similar model wouldn’t suddenly shatter everything about their brand or stories!
thus, those people complaining are stupid and should feel bad and embarrassed about their opinions. if CR did make the switch, their viewership might take a hit, but not because daggerheart is worse than dnd. it’s just that the ttrpg world and especially the CR fandom is full of petty, self-righteous babies who want to complain.
twirling my way in heeere to poke your beautiful brain about Caleb.... specifically your thoughts about Caleb and Gideon (◕ ◡ ◕)
SPECIFICALLY your thoughts about DAA!Caleb x DAA!Gideon
(◕ ◡ ◕) (◕ ◡ ◕) (◕ ◡ ◕)
PS: ilysm and i hope you've had a wonderful weeeeek <3 <3
NOVA mon étoile, mon cœur ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡) this took me far too long to get to, but i had to return because there is something i love with Caleb and Gideon, specifically in the DAA and to be even more precise, while at the academy.
there's so much tangled up in exploration and growth and firsts for them. please excuse my yapping thoughts on this:
Caleb doesn't call it running away, but that's what he's doing. Putting distance between too strong feelings and a too heavy weight. (He still carries it with him, looped around his neck and searing against his skin.) And he does what he's best at—adapts. Slips into the familiar skin of a golden boy, charming and charismatic. People pulled into his orbit to chase the slightest bit of warmth he casts their way.
Gideon is running towards something, chasing a feeling he's tasted on his tongue but never savored. Lets himself get lost (literally, he missed his train exit twice and briefly considered if aviation was the right choice—even though he's dreamed of touching the stars since he was six.) He's clumsier, laughs a little too loud, feels a little bit like a mere speck of dust in a grand universe, but it's something he's doing for himself for the first time.
And it's an odd cosmic event that a sun and a speck should get paired together (at least that's what Gideon thinks).
Because it's Caleb, an undeniable leader, the untouchable sun.
Who grants the smallest of kindnesses in the offer of a top bunk.
Caleb sees the little things, he knows Gideon doesn't really know how to cook, that he always forgets his water bottle. Small pieces you pick up on from living around someone (and maybe he's trying to soothe an ache that pulses at the hollow of his throat). So he makes sure Gideon eats something that's not a dry protein bar, makes sure to slip an extra water bottle in his bag before they leave.
Gideon picks up on things too. How Caleb's light gets a little dim when his social battery gets low. How he never really reveals anything about himself, but excels at pulling it out of others. How he tosses and turns in the bottom bunk most nights and slips out before most of his dorm mates wake up.
And it cumulates on some random night, their group packed into a booth, Caleb and Gideon pressed close together while their drunk classmates pick at greasy fries and pull up the next bar location. Gideon speaks up.
Because the thing I see in Gideon, is someone who maybe didn't have much a voice, who never really had the chance to make big choices.
So when he sees Caleb start to slip away, eyes glazed over and index finger absentmindedly tapping at something that settles just beneath his shirt, he makes the call that they're leaving. A soft suggestion, an almost question to Caleb.
And Caleb is always the caretaker, aims to be the strongest, that being seen is like a shock to his system. And so few people really do see him in his life, really only one.
And you were you, so many things to him wrapped into one person. What would it be like to have a friend? Not a group that he performs in front, but one he could try to be open with?
And maybe they don't talk that night, but it's the beginning of a chain reaction. It's late nights talking about what they want to do after they leave. It's early weekends on a run or a basketball court, talking about where they come from (but never really touching the parts that are too raw to expose to sunlight, aches that live deep beneath the skin).
It's a warmth for Gideon, to let himself hover in a sunbeam. And it's terrifying for Caleb, to know how quickly something can float away.
Then it's a shared water bottle, it's offering a taste of something directly from a spoon held in hand, it's one boot tapped to another before each flight.
It's the glimpse of a silver chain around his neck in the dorm room, the ghost of fingers over the nape of his neck where water droplets cling.
(And maybe it's being pressed against the door, a warning before hungry lips chase each other).
