Loooook what I got from @optimysticals!!
So I just had one of those experiences that remind me why I try to buy as much of my art locally and as indie as I can.
So I received a little package in the mail this morning. I turned it over, a little confused because I hadn't ordered anything, nor was I expecting mail from friends or family. On opening it, I found the most beautiful bat skull necklace with a little note saying 'A gift for You' and the particular bat the skull was cast from.
Now, anyone who spends much time on this blog knows that I'm both a death witch and a huge lover of skulls and bones. I have both a standing cast and a necklace from @parliamentrook, aso well as actual an animal skull (unidentified), parts of a deer spine, and lots of scrap fur. This was a gift tailored to perfection, something I would have picked out myself to the point where my girlfriend actually thought it was something I had bought. The box contained no indication of why it arrived, so I got in touch with the people who sent it.
It turns out that one of the artists at @optimysticals saw it while they were vending and thought of me. Now, the extent of my relationship with them to me seemed to be one based pretty much on me following their social media and buying things from them when I had the extra cash. I don't know their names, I've never seen their faces, I've never even been able to buy anything from them in person.
But they thought of me.
I have such utter respect for them as artists and as people and to have this concrete symbol of the relationships are can forge when it's shared this way is overwhelming and beautiful.
These are the kind of people who run this company. They think of their customers, remember their names, and sometimes, they slip a little something extra in the mail for you just because they think it might make you smile.
These are the earrings I got at con! Optimystical Studios made them. One for the pansexual flag, one for the demigirl flag. The wife got an ace dragon pendant to use as a zipper pull. I’m very pleased! They’re clip-ons, yes, because my ears closed up long ago but damn it I wear them anyway.
My brother-in-law came to the booth, too, and he was like “there are none for me!” and dude said “if you don’t see yourself up there, I can make you one - unless you’re cis/straight.” Brother looked sad, and I laughed at him. Sorry, you win the representation lottery, you don’t get fancy jewelry! The person behind the counter, though, had a great response. They said something like “once I can walk down the street and not be assumed to be those things by default, I will make one for you.”
Did anyone speak to optimysticals about this ridiculous Captain Marvel (and others) hoodie situation at ECCC?

Optimystical Studios
So back in June 2014 I pre-ordered the Captain Marvel hoodie from them (paid via Paypal) - I understoof that it was a pre-order and that they weren’t being made ‘in-house’ plus living in UK I knew there’d likely be a wait.
In September they emailed all those who ordered this message (it’s also on the listing for the item on their website)
Fair enough - they’ve admitted their problem and are dealing with it, I still really wanted the hoodie so i was happy to wait for at least another update etc.
in January 2015 I realise I have heard absolutely NOTHING
So I reply to the email for an update, as like an idiot, I still really wanted one!
No reply, I also posted on their Facebook page, my posts don’t show on there (I’m not sure how pages work if the owner of the page reviews posts from people before approving them to appear). Emailed again in Febuary.
You can tell I’m beginning to lose patience... so a couple weeks on I sent another email...
And here we are a month later and still nothing, they post regularly on Tumblr and Facebook (I’m not on Twitter anymore, but from other people on here with the same problem seems they are active on there). I’ve messaged them every way I can and I’m at my wits end. If it was just my emails going into spam (even though they say they are checking spam) i’d be less mad but I’ve messaged them on Tumblr and Facebook. Pretty sure they are just ignoring me. This isn’t cool at all, just want to know where my (and everyone else who pre-ordered) hoodie has gone. They seem to be actively going to cons etc - but I can’t get there because I am on the wrong side of the ocean! Can anybody find out what is going on before I file a complaint with Paypal or something because I don’t know what to do at all?!
No doubt something awful has happened and I am terrible person harrassing them but what else am I supposed to do being not psychic.

Optimystical Studios Captain Marvel Hoodies
The actual product months and months overdue, we finally got fed up and cancelled the order for these in the middle of December. No confirmation of cancellation yet despite several follow-ups from our end, and before that they hadn't responded to our last several emails; our last contact from optimysticals was in October.
This is edging over the line between "frustrating and unprofessional" to "vaguely shady," prompting this post. Even public Tweeting is getting us zero response, and while I'd really rather not take the step I'm starting to feel like the only way we're going to get our money back is to report this to some higher-up official body, though I'm not sure who that would be in this case. I know of at least one other party in the same situation. Is anybody else in this boat?
Check out this lovely Raven hairstick that optimysticals made for me! Alas, my attempts to get back-selfies of it in place failed utterly. But it fits and works perfectly in my hair. So so pretty!
