US-ordered "regime change" in South America has a long and bloody history. Its primary interest is always selfish, and it doesn't further those selfish interests by giving power to the people. It does so by empowering and supporting fascist military dictators, regardless of how nightmarish they are, and extracting wealth from the people and resources of those countries. Maduro sucks? How does he stack up against Pinochet, Videla, and the rest of the military dictatorships the US helped install? This is probably not a good thing.
The main difference between then and now is that the US doesn't feel like it needs to pretend that it isn't doing that. Or manufacture consent among the populace for it ahead of time. That's... Also not great. For a lot of reasons.

I hope that no one takes the posts that I reblogged as meaning that I don't care about what happened on 9/11 in the USA. I remember being 3 years old and watching television and not understanding what was happening but crying when I saw so much suffering.
However, I do believe that it is important to give MUCH more visibility to the military coup in Chile than what the media gives it on this date (Both happened on the same day, different years). It is worrying how the entire world only talks about what happened in the USA while many, including the gringos themselves, do not even know what their own government did not only in Chile but throughout Latin America. The millions of dead and missing people that affect us to this day. Look for Operation Condor if want to know what happened here not that long ago.
"Never forget" seems like a phrase only applicable to the United States and the rest of the "first world", while the crimes committed here by their imperialist governments seem irrelevant in their school history books.
Today is the presidential election in Chile, and there is one left-wing (communist) candidate, one old communist who doesn't count, and all the others are different shades of right-wing. The three main right-wing candidates are not only Pinochet supporters, with themselves and their families having been active collaborators in the civil-military dictatorship installed by the US during Operation Condor (which is still in operation), but they are also descendants of Nazis and other German imperialist scum (the country has a long history of germans committing genocide against our people because they see us as inferior, which is typical of their culture, they have always feel superior as all imperialists).
I've seen basically one post about this here, and honestly, I didn't even bother to post anything myself because no one here really cares about South America, especially since we are Yankeeland's backyard, pantry, and direct source of raw materials, as well as a centre of raw material resources for the rest of the world.
If there is no single winner tomorrow, there will be a second round, but the companies of Chile/South America already banged their fists on the table a few months ago with a public letter telling the far-right candidates that they had to agree and accumulate votes for one of them (the old aristocracy, the neoliberals, the new businessmen or the new right of the entertainment industry) in order to win.
The last time they failed to put a president in power and a Marxist (Salvador Allende) was elected, they staged a coup d'état led by the US with the support of other Western countries, and we have been living under a dictatorship that has never really ended, as they control the means of production, the media, the military, the government chambers and, therefore, the laws. Even our constitution was drafted under a dictatorship.
I will write a post about who wins when we know the results. If one of the pro-dictatorship candidates wins or they stage another coup, I will try to remain active, and I suppose that if I stop posting for more than a month, it is because I was detained by agents and probably tortured and disappeared with my partner.
Edit: the pinochetist nazi won with his pedo cultist german friends that helped to put right wing presidents in all South America.
