"We take the Bible too seriously to take it literally."
People sometimes ask what that means.
It means we believe Scripture is more than a collection of isolated verses. It's poetry and prophecy, history and hope, parable and protest. It's a library pointing us toward the living God revealed in Jesus.
Taking the Bible seriously means wrestling with it, asking hard questions, paying attention to context, and reading every page through the greatest commandments: love God and love your neighbor.
We don't read the Bible to find excuses to exclude people.
We read it to learn how to love them.
