Aunty Dot Dot Louie is my newest Aunty, though it feels Uncle knows her since Year Dot. She’s related to all my Chinese friends from Gisborne; but I’ve never met Aunty Dot until tonight. My tennis mate Denis Hepi’s parents used to work with Aunty Dot and that is the catalyst for our dinner at Ipoh Malaysian Cuisine, who incidentally is Top 10 in Metro Cheap Eats 2019. We have a starter of Otak Otak, Ipoh style, Ling Collar Vermicelli Soup, Hainanese Chicken Rice and Wat Tan Hor. Each dish is punctuated with screeches of laughter mainly from Aunty as Musician Denis regales us with real-life happenings pertinent to him. Uncle also had his anecdotes, which most proper Aunties should not be listening to. Owner Daphne Toe presents our jolly group with a mooncake, as it's lunar festival time. Tonight’s mooncake had a salted egg yolk, with layers of red bean and lotus seed paste encased in a decorative skin. There are more unbridled laughter when Aunty & Denis ”mooned” their way through this celebratory cake. I'm glad to meet my newest Aunty. We get along famously. #onthedot #newestauntyalert #otakotak #lingcollarsvermicellisoup #hainanesechickenrice #wattanhor #mooncake #ipohmalaysiancuisine #remuera #catchup #metrocheapeatstopten (at Ipoh Malaysian Cuisine, 598 Remuera Road, Remuera) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2S3zjypw08/?igshid=137n8txal3b7i
